Soon to be Mazda5 owner

I set out to get a Black on Black 08 GT with Nav. Well there is apparently only one in the 16 southern US states...and it was on it's way to Nebraska to an owner. Boo! I could have any number of Black on Black GT's....but not Nav. Bummer. I thought about ordering but it would take almost 2 months. I'm not in a hurry....but would rather not wait. I then went to my number 2 choice Stormy Blue Mica. There was one at a dealer north of town and one on the way to the port. My leasing agent secured the one on the boat. Funny thing is one/the main port for Mazda is just 20 miles south of my house. Small world. Once it arrives I am going to tint it to the darkest legal in Texas, add the rear bumper guard and the homelink rearview mirror. I am coming out of a 2005 Acura TSX. The only things I am giving up are power seats, dual zone climate control, the need for premium gas and 47 horsepower. I am still debating lease vs buy. I am currently ahead on my lease and will get money back when I trade it in. With interest rates so low (4.89%) I might just buy it and drive it for a while. Hmm long post short....can't wait to get it this time next week!

good luck finding Mz5 you want..(cool)

lots of people are coming from Acura TSX to Mazda5 .. interesting..

Welcome..

Talked to the car leasing agent today. Said the car is down the road in the Mazda "port" aka Mansfield, TX. He stated the navigation system will be installed this week. I thought a "factory" nav would be installed...at the factory. Sounds odd to install a navigation system locally vs the factory. Anyone else heard of this?

Yes, they do that alot at the port before it goes out to the dealers. And when you do get your new Mazda5 how bout some pic's of it. Good luck and enjoy the drive home!

Of course the install will take a few days which will delay my getting my new car. I am a pilot and only have today and tomorrow off then I work the next 6 days. I then get one more day off followed by another 5 days of work. Hopefully everything will come together on my next day off as my lease payment on my current car is rapidly approaching.

Just to expand on zoomzoom's point, have you ever went to spec out a car on KBB.com and saw "PIO" and/or "DIO"?

PIO - Port Installed Option
DIO - Dealer Installed Option

FWIW, my SIRIUS system was a DIO, so they did that just shortly before delivery to me. So yes it's perfectly normal across all makes/models. But sorry to hear it's gonna screw up your arrangements... I had to wait 4 months from order to delivery of my 5, if it makes you feel any better! (lol2)

Very interesting that you are going from one car that is regularly "reviewed" as being "under-powered" to another. I have never met a TSX owner who thought their car needed more oomph, and so far the same holds true for 5 owners. I guess we are all cut from the same cloth. BTW you will love the 5 go ahead and buy it! Besides I think that the residual value on one would be too low to make it a money making venture as a lease any-how. And welcome!

The TSX has just enough power. It's been an OK car. Nothing great. I have a history of "just enough" power cars. Including a 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS (with a conversation ending 8100 redline...loud), 1998 Cadillac Catera (nice car, horrible value...bought it used), 1997 Saturn SC2, 1994 Saturn SL2 and my first car ever...land yacht 1988 Lincoln Continental with a 160HP V6.

When I test drove the 5...it was again "just enough" power.

As far as leasing. I have a tendency to trade often. If the lease rate doesn't look good I will prolly buy and try to keep it after its paid off. I have a 5.0% finance rate from my bank that I have been approved for. I also get S-Plan pricing through my employer so it could go either way.

So I am almost an owner. I went to take a look at the only Black/Black 2008 GT within any state bordering Texas. I was leary as it had 811 miles on it and has been on an Oklahoma dealer lot for months. I test drove it and all was well except a slight vibration above 60 MPH. I suspected a flat spotted tire or out of balance tire. They are going to fix whatever it is Monday. I will then drive it again and buy it if all is well. I am getting a pretty good deal. Starting with my 'S' plan price of $21546 they gave me an additional $500 off for the miles, $1250 off for lease cash, and $250 additional for my trade in (2005 Acura TSX, Carmax offered $17500, dealer offering $17,750). After all said and done I will be "financing"19000"+ttl. My 3 years 36K mile lease payment with zero down will be $340 a month...not too bad. Next step is gonna be the Avic D3, home link mirror, rear bumper plate and thats about it.
