someone screwed up, I think

Ok so here's what happened.

Monday I got into a fender bender, and went to get the estimate the next day. Now the estimate guy had computer problems so he couldn't submit the estimate electronically right away, so he said I'll fax you and the dealer the estimate.

So I drop the car off at the dealer and give him the estimator's card and say "get in touch with this person. he will send you an estimate". I asked mazda 2-20 to do an estimate but they said "no point doing one if the insurance makes their own".

The day after I receive the estimate. Roughly 1500$ canadian.

Fast forward to today. I go pick up the car. For some odd reason service closes at noon on friday. At any rate, I pick up the car and they give me a bill for 2200$, which I did *not* sign. So I call my insurer and say "why did mazda givem e a 2200$ invoice?". The insurer says "I have no idea but we're only paying 1500$".

Hence the problem. Now I'm no expert at this, but I think that the dealer should have first cleared the price difference with the estimator before going ahead with the repairs. If they didn't, they messed up, correct? I know that I never signed ANY estimate that said 2200$ on it, and I think that by Quebec law, any repair has to be preceded by a written estimate.

And why the hell does 2-20 close at noon on fridays?

Your input is much appreciated.

how much is your deductable. i dont know how it works up north, but when my car was broken into and i had it fixed. i had to pay the deductable on the spot when i picked the car up.

Don't worry about it too much.

Bottom line, you never authorized Mazda to do any repairs to your car other than those that would be covered by your insurance company.

You have your car; that is good. You also haven't paid any money out of your own pocket; that is also good. It's up to the insurance company and your Mazda dealer to duke it out now.

Did your insurance adjustor look over the car at the Mazda dealership?

The damage was minor so I drove the car to get estimated in person. After that, I have no idea what happened, can't get in touch with anyone. The agent I spoke to was pretty pissed off and didn't seem intent on paying the extra 700$. And I have no deductible (special deal).

So when I went to pick up the car the secretary said "you have a deductible" I said "no I do not" and she said "ok no problem have a nice day here are the keys".

Monday will be an interesting day for everyone.

Sounds like a wonderful management, coincidentally, the Mazda dealer I bought my car from have problems keeping their new cars from dissappearing from their parking lot. Last time I was over there having a pleasant chit chat with a sale dealer, he handed me a sheet of paper to check out... 8 cars missing from his parking lot and they have no idea how they dissappeared....

This could happen too....

Dingy sales rep: "You have a car?"
Customer: "No, I do not."
Dingy sales rep: "No problem. Have a nice day, and here are the keys."

:D :D :D :D

Well, I managed to track down the estimator and he said he had received a supplement for the car, so all is under control. Still kinda funny thing for the deductible though. They really should leave at least one service person in just to talk to clients and make sure nothing gets fouled up.

Man that's great that it worked out for ya.

Just wondering, is anyone keeping track of how many MP3's are getting into accidents? Seems like quite a few lately.

btw: The new page looks great.

There's been quite a few right here on this site that have been in accidents...but to my knowledge so far only one person here has written off their car completely. Not sure about that. Of course I'm not even sure how many unique different MP3 owners are registered here out of the full 1500 either.

I was in an accident a few days ago. wasn't my fault so I don't have to pay anything. But this is the first car I have owned that I have never had second thoughts about keeping. I don't think I will ever get rid of my car!!!
