So, a drunk driver crashed into my parked car last night...

Sorry to hear about the dumbass drunk driver. Good to hear you and your family was safe during the incident. Hope the a-hole gets everything he has comign to him.

It makes me wonder why the hell SUVs are still manufactured.... there should be a huge tax increase say... 75% of income for purchasing a SUV... God I hate the cars, and worst of all, i hate the drivers, how they think they are cocky in their miniature semi truck, which has a potential % of dying bloodier than a sedan

Wow. I just looked up your posts to link the FS thread for the rest of the intake parts, and I saw this thread. Holy s*** man, you are taking this very well. I hope karma will take care of him quickly.

Hope you stay in the Mazda family.

Hey, thanks alot man!! I really appreciate you hating on us folks who own SUVs, especially when we need a reasonable way to haul our families and their friends around to little league, basketball, football, (name your favorite sport here), etc. Sometimes its not about whether we like having an SUV or minivan, its about what works best for our families. Lets see you haul around 3 boys in your MSP continuously (anyone want to back me up on the one meet I had the whole clan in the car - we looked like a circus troop in the P5). Why do you think I gave up my Miata first, and then my P5.

The guy was an asswipe; I don't think it mattered what he was driving - he probably would have done just as much damage driving a Yugo. Look at the shape his Escalade ended up in. It entirely rests with the driver.

Sorry for the rant in your thread Dimi. I'll give you a call tomorrow.

well i might as well do it. if you have an mp3 ecu i am calling dibs on it. if not oh well. good luck with your next car.

D, I shall send you your money back for the sills. And do let us know what you end up getting. ;)

And what I don't like about SUV's is that they are not hit with a gas guzzler tax, when cars like porsches are. LAME.

Thanks Joe; trust me, I wasn't planning on this s*** (well duh on me.....else I wouldn't have sent you the cash).

I'll keep everyone posted. it's going to be about 2 1/2 weeks before I get anything as I have to be in Louisiana next week and then go (finally) to Edmonton the week of the 1st.

Well it has been said and well it sucks about the p5...i am truely sorry and feel your pain. Thankfully no one was hurt. It sucks about drunk driving hence why i will never in my life have a drink and drive. Today i qas questioned by a lawyer over an accident and the guy asked "the day of the accident were you on any medication?...did you drink om the day of the accident?" i was 18 at the time why would i drink and drive dumbass! anyways i dont mean to threadjack the guy is doing his stupid job. but anyways i am sorry and feel your pain accidents are no fun no matter whos fault it is. Be thankful its just material items and not lives or physical human damage.

"Psuedo" official word from the body shop:

Protege5: about $5800 in damage. I really don't have a choice other than to repair it at this point. As soon as I get it back, I'm going to start looking for another car. The repair will be guaranteed for life (www.carcollision.com) however I still don't feel good about it.

I'll start selling off the mods I never got around to around mid-August. Car will NOT be parted out. Unless I end up in an MSP or another Protege5 (the more I think about it, the slimmer the chances of getting into another BJ chassis Protege will be). We'll see..it'll give me more time to find a P11 G20 or something else altogether.

I test drove an Audi A3 today at lunch and it blew my mind. I can't afford it now (well, I can, but I don't want payments again), but the linear power response and not having to be concerned about wheel hop while accellerating was nice. FWD, 200HP FSI DI 2.0L turbo engine, amazing interior, and a 6-speed (nees a short shifter desperately though)..but what do you expect for $28k....maybe in a few years.

As for the Altima - 99% sure it's totaled. Just waiting on the official word from insurance.

Again, just some quick thoughts and updates; I have more time than expected now so I have more nights to sleep on it.

hmm well good luck! Remember that it's just an estimate and can always go higher... my girlfriend's old civic was estimated around 8k in damage, but that was later bumped up to over 10k after additional damage was discovered. Unfortunately, since work had already begun on fixing it, the car was not totaled...

Good point Steve; the estimate is preliminary (they haven't taken any of the panels off yet or the wheel)....it'll work out.

wait until you get it back and drive it - you may just be satisifed with how it turns out :shrugs:

you got my PM so let me know how i can help you out when the time comes

its just an A-arm, they bend pretty easy, they are only made out of stamped steel, not very strong if ya ask me, the subframe wont bend for s*** though, and thats good, it will drive like new

That's what I'm hoping. I never intended to get rid of the Protege...drive it forever, resale be damned.

If I end up selling it on Autotrader or Cars, I may end up discounting it to like $10 (bring it back to stock first).

I have a feeling that I'll just get it back and it'll be just fine. Everyone at work is all like "well, my 1924 Model T got into a wreck and never drove right since" (I work with a bunch of grey hairs...)...

I'm going to go to the body shop today to take a look at it myself.

the preliminary estimate on ryans car was about $6800. then they got behind the body panels and into the engine bay and it quickly jumped to about $12K. they totalled it and he now has an rsx-s

LOL did Model T's drive right in the first place?
