Dimitrios, sorry to hear, but man, it couldve been worse. Tons worse. Remember how you wanted a new car a couple months ago. Escalade man could have ****** up your new car instead of the 5. "Sacrifice" indeed. All will be well in the land of Dimitrios.
Definitely agree 1000%. It could have been much worse - it's just a car and whether it was the 5 or something else, I probably would have felt the same. At the end of the day, it's still metal, glass, leather and rubber (um..that sounded a bit masochistic...) - and that's true whether it's a Ferrari or a Mazda.
Hell, I just paid off the 5 like 3 months ago, but that's not bothering me. It's just the inconvience with it all (I had a flight to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada yesterday that I had to cancel, take a day off work, et al).
But we'll see..here's my short list (if/when they decide the 5 is totalled), in no particular order:
- 2002 Infiniti G20T (I had been looking at one before I bought the Pro5...mmmmm...SR20DE. Must have a 5-speed and leather...tough to track down)
- 2003/2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege (yes)
- 2004/2005 Scion tC (though I don't know if I want a 2-door)
- 2004 Mazda3 hatch (I'm going to test drive one for grins, but I don't think I'll like it....).
I'd love to get one of the new Audi A3s, but it's a bit beyond my budget right now (I don't feel like more car payments right now, just want/need something to get on with life). But other than that, European cars/German cars don't do much for me.
Anyway, thanks again for the support guys.
Also, update on the incident:
The officers that put in the police report Sunday night came by yesterday afternoon: the neighbor turned himself into Chicago PD yesterday (Monday) morning at 6 AM. He was ticketed for leaving the scene of a hit and run (oxymoronic) and wreckless driving. DUI isn't applicable because he wasn't pulled over or found behind the wheel of the car.
Traffic Court date on August 8th at Daley Plaza. I have to show else the tickets get thrown out.
The best part is that his Escalade was towed to a Chicago pound. Therefore, he has to pay out of pocket the initial towing Sunday night/Monday morning, the payment of daily storage fees (I think it's something like $25 or $50 a day), plus whatever he pays to have it towed out of the lot (remember, it's undrivable due to the broken front suspension/axle) and whatever he has to pay on his deductible to have it repaired.
