Hey, has anyone had the opportunity to drive their P5 in the snow yet? I'm curious to hear how the stock tires perform on white stuff.

I've been driving the stock dunlop all seasons for about 3 weeks now in snow. The performance on slippery surfaces are okay once the tires have been running for a bit, but at cold starts I've found them to be a little lacking. The type of snow I've been running on is generally heavy and slushy in light layers. I find that this is generally also the worst type of snow for grip as it freeze's quickly, but the fresh falling snow is slippery on top.

As always this is just my 2 cents.

I wish I would atleast see freezing point in philly so I could see how it handles in snow. It was only 70 here today.

I've been driving my P5 in the snow up here in Edmonton for about three weeks now. The Dunlop all seasons handle the dry, hard packed snow quite well, cold or warm. The ice is a bit of a different issue when driving vigorously but the ABS system works really well so stopping is not problem. I've only heard the chatter of a locked ABS system a couple of times thus far. That said, I'm still considering winter radials if the budget can be stretched that far.

I don't thing I'm going to enjoy the Dunlops in the snow....if I ever see any this year. I've had slippage problems on high grade wet on ramps. It seems these tires break loose very easily.

come'on now lowlight we havent had to truly test those tires out too much yet..granted we had a little snow but nothing to really test out the dunlops yet..but what we did have so far..the tires were pretty good for 50 series

Any recommendations on snow tires? Would you put them on alloy rims or just use cheaper steel rims?

I've seen tirerack.com have some good sales in magazines ($580 for rims and tires).

I work in a tire shop and I recommend putting on 14" steel rims with 185/80R14 michelin arctic alpins or the bridgstone blizzaks, arctic alpins out perform the blizzaks and are the same price, the narrower the tire the better traction, besides who cares what they look like in the winter.

I have 16" Pirelli Snow Sport 230's on my P5, so far I havent tested it yet on real snow. I'm just getting ready Chicago winters yet to come. I got it for $600. Not too much road noice heard while driving unlike some snow tires i've owned. P5 was my forth ride for 2001. I'll keep you guys posted on the tires. :)

Larry (newfiep5) is right, the snow here hasn't been close to bad, but it has been slippery. Being a heavy footed driver I've noticed that the tires like to loose grip on fast starts in very little snow. It's best just to opt to get winter tires if you are in an area with more then a couple of inches of snow.

Thing is compared to the snow last year, this year is a joke, so far...

we got our first snow yesterday 4" the Pirelli Snow Sport tires are awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D really happy with them.

Yeah, we finally got some snow yesterday, but it was more patches of ice and some slick spots, not much to test on.

I've been driving the P5 in some snow for about a week now. It was all good, until one night when I was on a back street and hit a patch of ice a bit too fast and narrowly avoided sliding over the curb onto someone's lawn. However, I did slighly hit my rear right wheel. Luckily, no alignment problems arose.

I hate fresh snow over a layer of ice, absolutely deadly.

I was pleasantly suprised by the performance of the Dunlops in snow. Once the tires warm up they're just as good as any all season tire.

well i live in arizona so i havent had much snow issues but however in rain these tires suck ass i spin every time.......and when i break i slide its like i have to tap them to warn the i am going to stop when it rains.......... other than that they're ok they spin alot also when racing.....the dunlap5000's stock tires and rims..........
