Snow tires are generally smaller and narrower than your summer tires so you get more pounds per square inch on the pavement. More PSI on road=better traction. I am running Bridgestone Blizzak 185/65R14 on steel rims. Bought from Tirerack.com- highly recommended! The site has winter tire packages that I found mine from. They came balanced (for free) and ready to bolt on.
