Smoked Overlays?!?

thaikim

mmm... rice
hey I'm thinking about ordering the Rockblocker headlight overlays in either smoked or charcoal... I can't seem to find a decent pic of them installed anywhere all I keep finding are pics of the blue ones... If anyone has them or at least a pic of them I'd love to see what it looks like and how dark it is. Thanks

what you could do is post a picture of your car and someone can photoshop them.

i photoshopped a banana with smoked overlays.

you talking about these? (poke)

what you can do, which is a little cheaper, is head out to a local hobby shop and pick up the small spray cans of black tint. (this is used to tint windows on model cars) Grab a pack of very fine grit sand paper. spray the tail lights with water, then slowly rub the sand paper over the damp tails. Be sure to do this in a circlular motion. once you have your tails fully rubbed down, rub them down with a rag and start sprayin'. Here is a picture of my old s10 with the smoked tails........

2 cans of spray - $8.00
Sand Paper - $8.00

takes about 20-25 minutes per tail light

Bluebatmobile also sells overlays for our car. I think they are a bit cheaper than the rockblockers, I have the front fogs and my tail turn/reverse signals smoked.

Big difference between Blue Bats and ours is we OFFER headlight protection with our colored films where as they do not. They offer a sticker basically for $35 shipped. Seems pricey to me...

overlays look great, when i have enough i am planning on ordering rockblockers.

also the rockblockers seem like they are made from a stronger material, i think they would last longer.

First off, I use a 7 year rated premium vinyl for all my overlays. It is thicker than window tinrt. I've had many satisfied customers who sport my stuff. Mine don't offer protection? 3 mil of protection is better than none at all. I think it's great that you have thicker material and yours offer more protection. I too can use the same material you do and charge what you sell yours for. I simply offer an alternative to what you offer ;). IMO, most people get this stuff for aesthetics anyways.

You know,I really don't understand why it's necessary to bash BlueBats overlays.I have them on my car,as well as some friends of mine on their cars and they really like them a lot and they have complimented him on his work. And as far as protection??PROTECTION??Is that really the purpose of vinyl overlays???C'mon now!If you want protection,go down to Pep Boys and get some headlight and tail light tape.We all know that the purpose of the overlays is for APPEARANCE.If they were made strictly for protection,it would be useless to have them come in different finishes and colors. They would just be clear.

And I apologize ahead of time,if I start a flame war.

Where was there any bashing going on? Stating facts is not bashing. People can make their own choice and that is all good. But People also need to know what they are getting and having to choose from right?

We dont consider our product overlays, but rather light protection because that is what it is. Sure the product started off as Clear light protection, but the demand was there for colors so now we offer that too.

Your right overlays is for appearance, but getting tape from Pep Boys would look like crap for light protection and you know it.

I am sure their a lot of satisfied customers with Bats products just like we have with ours. The community is large enough for both of us to survive and offer great products to them and I am fine with that.

I would spent the money for the rockblockers for my headlights and fog lights because the added protection it provides. If i was planning to get the overlays for the tails i wouldnt need the protection aspect and might save a couple bucks and get Bats. I bought my fog overlays only for the protection aspect, My fogs were chipped horribly from rocks and one had started to leak. When i bought my new fogs i bought rockblockers to protect them. The option of getting color was nice, but not as important to me. I am happy with my rockblockers and would buy from them again. Bat provides a good product if appearance is your only goal.

well, im sorry to dig up this old thread, but im having some application problems with my rockblocker tail light covers. Ive PM'd RockBlocker but havent received a responce yet and ive checked out his website but the "how to" didnt help me much. Does anyone know how to apply these things correctly? Im having a problem getting them to fully cover the tails. Do i need to take a heat gun to these and stretch these across? any help would be great.....
