smoked an MSP post falsh....

I just thought you guys would find this interesting...I have an EBC in my car so I can pretty much boost how high I want, when ever I want. My friend and both have MSP's (mine is yellow, his is orange). So I decided to listen to Joe and not get the flash...Thanks Joe...point is My friend after the flash set his at 10 psi, and I set mine to 12...and I smoked him really bad..so I put mine down to 10 psi to make it fair and I still yanked a car on him!!!! My car never hesitated so I never got the flash... and thank god I didnt cuz my boy says its smoother but slower and it sucks fat balls..... Thank god I didnt get the flash...and a big AMEN to Joe P for telling me not too....next time we race I'm gonna have my wife video tape it so you can see the beating...

has his pcm had time to learn the flash? my MSP took about 500 miles before I could tell a differance. Now my MSP is as fast at 10 as it was at say 12. It's now throughout the powerband instead of at 5500 rpm. Glad you dont have the hesitation though...

somebody needs to go to the track post flash and get some times
also wasnt someone going get some dyno time and use a knock sensor and such and start figuring out some thresholds on whats safe?

i would go to a track but i dont know where one is. der

We are both great drivers , weve been building Hondas since '95 but fell in love with these MSP's so we bought them...but if you wan't to say I am a better driver...hey, I'll take it....but realistically I smoked him...and he can drive... I think I'm gonna call him now and tell him we should switch cars, then race..to see if it is a driver issue... but I doubt it..he can drive.. I will let you guys know...I just thought I'd let you guys know to be carefull....cuz my friend is sooooo pissed he got flashed.

Nope I love mine. I raced a non flashed one and smoked him hard. I am flashed:). He was 15 psi and I was at 12. Same mods as him. We hesitate really bad out here in the heat of AZ.:(

You have an EBC so you can boost as high as you want?
Last i checked the controller itself didnt make it safer to run more boost...
i know what you meant, that an EBC might be more stable when upping the boost..

Was this from a dig or roll? From a roll, its less driver more car.

How did you guys fair at stock?
Is his car hooked up to an EBC too?
At higher boost, I think the 2003.5's clutch would not slip as bad comparing to the 2003's which I do notice with mine. This might explain it too.

I like my car post-flash, more consistent power..but it all depends on what u want to do w/ your car. Mine is a daily driver, and I'd like to keep my mods simple to keep the warranty. If you plan on higher boost, standalone,etc,etc...Then maybe the flash isn't the best route to go...

I have to agree with arkiteck's explaination.

The 03 clutch sucks... the 3.5 is much more firm and stable. Once mine goes, a 3.5 is going in! :D

If you go with a standalone, it doesn't matter if you have the flash or not. The ECU goes bye-bye :)

I was thinking the same and it begs this new question since I don't understand the workings of a clutch all that well.

What actual components are different between the 2003 and 2003.5? Just the springs or the whole thing? This would affect the cost quite a bit and whether we can upgrade it now or wait until the exiting one wears out.

Are we better off to go with an aftermarket clutch also?

I can clear this up.

Went to the track a while back. Fastest run was 15.58 @ 89 w/ the exact same type of launch (actually the old one was a bit better) as my new fastest run of 15.35 @91 (with flash). Now...I'm still learning how to drive drag, so these may not be indicative of the possibilities. I can, however, tell you 2 things.

1) the car pulls harder. It's not my imagination...
2) it pulls to red faster and smoother, and I now have to shift into fourth (unless I'm shifting too early on the other gears...but it's where I was shifting before, too...so I think that's pretty equivalent.)

There is a difference, in many ways, and I'm glad I have the flash. I'm sure it'll help in Auto-X more than the track, though...

I too am a more "daily" driver as well. I love teh flash's smoothness compared to the car before. Without the flash the car was alot more unpredictable. Now i know when the power is going to come.

They have the same Clutch. :D

buit the brochures and other things said that 3.5 had a stiffer clutch.

what is different about it?
