Please explain more specifically what you're experiencing.

If you read the fine print on all of these systems (regardless of manufacturer) They will only work in optimal conditions. There are so many variables that can prevent them from functioning 100% as intended. I've had customers complain about the systems on 100k+ Mercedes Benz not working "as advertised"

I don't think it works! I have mine turned on, and one night I pulled into the garage, parked, went to grab some stuff off the seat that I needed take in. Thinking that I had placed it in park, I took my foot off the brake pedal. I don't think its too hard to figure out what happened next! luckily is was a soft enough hit that it did no damage!
There is a reason why mazda took the time to print and place a manual in your vehicle.

l The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system will not operate if the driver is deliberately performing driving operations (accelerator pedal and steering wheel).
l The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system will operate under the following conditions. l The engine is running.
l “SCBS Forward malfunction” is not displayed in the multi-information display.
l The vehicle speed is between about 4 to 30 km/h (2 to 18 mph).
l The Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) system is not turned off.
l The DSC is not malfunctioning.

Try pulling into your garage while the door is opening. I always have clearance for the hood of the car, but SCBS senses the door because it still isn't all the way up, and it stops my car. I do this every time I pull into my garage, going about 4-5 mph, and SCBS almost always activates. It's a 2015, so no active sense package, but still works. The salesperson who sold me my CX5 suggested setting up a cardboard box with something shiny/reflective on it to test it out if I really wanted to try it.
I try not to hit the "read your manual" button too often, but once in a while it works. While this forum is an open discussion for all users to share their experiences and opinions, those opinions are shaped more accurately with facts.
If you are going to rely on an automated system to correct the inevitable human error, it behooves you to understand the limitation of the system. Lots of times people fall into the trap of easy answers and quick fixes without studying first, I myself fall within this category at times. We are all human.

My opinion of Mazda's Smart City Braking is intended to "minimize" damage..... under certain conditions of course. This appears to be much more passive than Subaru's Auto Braking system which receives the highest IIHS scores for actual "front crash prevention".

Not surprised. I never really found much use in these smart braking systems anyways. Mazda's blind spot monitoring system on the other hand is used just about every day. It saved me a couple times from stupid drivers not signaling.
