Sirius Kit

I was thinking about getting the Sirius Kit for my cx-7 with tech package, but I have a few questions.

1. Does it display the artist/song title on the nav screen?

2. Can you change channels from the steering wheel?

3. Can you find it anywhere for cheaper than $400 my dealer quoted me?

Thank You

Answers:

(1) Yes, it displays artist/song title info on Nav screen
(2) Yes, sort-of... it will cycle through your preset stations
(3) I have no idea, sorry.

I would look to install one of the aftermarket portable units - Starmate 4 or others. From my experince (I had a Starmate in my previous car) the Sirius unit in my CX-7 (factory) has very poor reception, alot less features & costs a lot more. I know it is real nice having it go throught the radio and displayed but the quality of the unit is not up to par. I lost my service for over 2 weeks when Sirius did an upgrade last month. There are problems with the factory radio.

I am probably going to buy the new portable Sirius radio (Staletto 100) and install it in my CX-7 at the end of my 6 mos free. It can do so much more than the basic OEM radio.

100 - $349 + $69 car kit - $420 vs $400 factory unit with problems. No brainer for me. P.S. the Starmate is under $100. I would pull it out of my car and throw it in my wife's car when we took her car anywhere. I like the portables.

Maybe I'll sell the OEM radio on EBay.

Yes, in a lame way. You have to press the tuner knob to cycle through the station name, artist, song title. In addition, the entire name doens't show up. You have to turn the tuner knob to scroll the text of the artist or song title.

Yes, just like you can change channels when listening to FM - by skipping through your presets.

I doubt it, unless you can find it on ebay or something.

However, like dhiney suggested, if you're interested in satellite radio I'd get one of the external dash units. Reception on the CX-7's unit is poor for some reason, plus like I described above, the CX-7's text display is lame. In addition, I'm not finding SIRIUS to be that special. I guess it depends on the music you listen to, but I haven't been impressed with any of the channels and I often wonder if XM is any better.

selling Sirius tuner

I just removed my factory Bose radio and have no need for the Sirius tuner. If you're still looking for one I'll sell mine for $250.

IMNSHO, XM is far better. I had it in my Santa Fe, as an external unit, and have it in my Miata. The news and sports are about the same (CNN is CNN), but the music is far, far better on XM. I really hate the idea of hanging an external unit on this dash and don't really want to put in a new radio, though. Once the six month trial is up, I'll give it a good think.

What did you install in it's place and how did it integrate?

I changed the entire system speakers, head unit, amplifiers, everything.

With what exactly?
Photos?

I've been considering avoiding the tech package and going with an entire aftermarket solution, but I'd love to see one like that and know more details if you'd like to share...

;)

Does anyone know if the sirius kit or the Ipod kit will activate the centerpoint system?

Also has anyone seen an after market kit for XM that will integrate with it?
