Single scratch on Display

Was cleaning my 2016 GS with a microfiber cloth and somehow managed to scratch the display of the infotainment.

Is it possible there is a screen protector already installed on it? It's hard to tell. Also curious the best remedy for possibly getting the scratch out - products, techniques etc. It doesn't seem terribly deep.

Cheers

No protector. Try Meguire's Plastx plastic polish (or similar). Use only a microfiber cloth meant for eyeglasses.

Sorry, thought you meant the gauges. Don't use polish on the radio screen.

This stuff? General PDP Template

Also, the black plastic on the interior is pretty scratched up in places. I guess this clear stuff wouldn't work too well on that either. I've read you can take a heat gun to it lightly.

I haven't tried Plastx on the clear display. Personally, I'd be very hesitant to use it - Plastx is a plastic polish. Polishes have very fine abrasives. You may end up creating more of an issue trying to get rid of that one scratch. I'd say test it on an inconspicuous area first, but I don't know where else they use a clear plastic like the one used for the display. Plastx does work really well on the exterior side pillars, and I'd assume that it works really well on the gloss black pieces on the interior too. Those plastics hide micromarring and fine swirling much better than the clear plastic.

I'd avoid the heat gun on glass black plastics, it's possible that you'd melt the piece waiting for the scratches to disappear. Besides covering the plastic with vinyl wrap, polish is your next safest bet. IMO, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just be sure to clean the display with a clean, damp microfiber in the future, and then wipe it clean with a clean, dry, high GSM microfiber to reduce the chances of future scratches.

I've used both Meguires and Mothers plastic polishes on clear plastics and they work extremely well. In fact, it's more difficult to get a fine finish on black plastic than on clear. So, if it works well on black, it'll work well on clear too.

I wouldn't think this is a good idea. There is an anti-glare coating and you could possibly abrade it away.
