Sig Transparency

How can i get the background of my signature transparent (see below for sig)

I made it in photoshop on a transparent background, but when i flattened it (for a smaller file) it gave me the white background

Should i not flatten, or do i need to make a clipping path??

save it as a GIF.. JPEG's cant be transparent..

well gifs are also less quality than JPGs so they will look worse.
