Side Skirts

Side Moulding Installation

Before I start installing my side moldings, do I need to remove the OEM side molding first?

You ride is my favorite Mz5 by far, but come’on, you need to change that factory antenna! In fact, you are required to get a shark fin! -I kid, no, seriously...

BTW, thanks for the link to the spoiler. I have too many little things to get done first but it is on my list for next year!

Christmas is coming. I will work on that. LOL.

I wish there was a wing that was smaller..I look at the Mazda3 wing (not the Speed) and wonder..I doubt it would, but I have not the time nor the chance to look at one closely..

It should fit...

I'm not sure because I have a Soprt model which came without side skirts. They MIGHT slip over your originals but I'm not sure.

If you do not have side skirts, whether they are aftermarket or original they should go on top of the existing plastic. You should not have to take off anything.

In the meantime, I recommend wire cutter as a temp solution until this issue gets fixed.

There are smaller ones, but why would you want it smaller? The Euro spoiler looks nice too, comparable to the one amssprinter’s in terms of size expect it has a tight seal along the top, whereas amssprinter's has a gap.

It looks pretty big to me in the pictures, and I think he mentioned that it touched the antenna when he raises the the tailgate. Not a big deal to be sure, but just would like to see what other choices there are. Thanks for that thread link. I like the first one. Just need time to do more research and measuring.

EDIT: I think what I would REALLY like would be a small lip or spoiler on the back instead of an actual wing...
I think a lip would provide a little more aerodynamic efficiency (whatever can be had at highway speeds) and and it would be lighter as well.. Will make a decision and go for it in 2012.

For the side skirts, I pretty much just pre-drilled 8 small holes(2 per inner fender) and used the provided self tapping screws. I stacked up 3M double tape for the sides of the front fenders. If you want to do it right, you might want to make custom brackets to mount the tabs at the bottom(but I didn't do this). You can't use mounting tape for the portion underneath the doors because they will scrape due to lack of clearance.

As for the rest of the kit, I just used long strips of 3M mounting tape all the way along the top edges of the lips and used the self tapping screws for the inner fenders.

Let me know if you want photos.

Thanks!

How about using rivets to install a P5 side skirts on a 2002 protege sedan lx? What do you think?,,,
