got my CX5 two weeks ago. The only one fits my configuration was in the showroom and they literally drove it out from the showroom floor for me. Is that unusual ? good or bad?

No, it is not unusual. If that's the only one you can find in your dealership suits your configuration. The drawbacks getting a car from the showroom is it may have some wear and tear caused by people seating in and out. But those problems you can catch by doing careful inspection. I have more problem on cars with many miles due to test driving by customers or dealer trade as you never know how these people drove during the important "break-in" period. Personally I prefer to get a new car with almost zero miles and not from the showroom. That's why we ordered our CX-5 and waited for 23 days.

thanks. the car had 20 some miles in it but the production date is Dec 2014

I wouldn't be concerned. A showroom car probably had less use and may have been better protected from lot dings. I would just inspect is closely but I'd do the same with any new car.

Having a few people sit in it shouldn't have caused any significant interior wear. (if so then I'd be suspect of Mazda quality)

As for break in, the old rule of "drive it as you stole it" is generally better then "babying it". (unless Mazda has a strict break in procedure but I doubt they do other then to avoid sudden stops)

For the first 1,000 km (600 miles) on Mazda CX-5:
  • Do not race the engine.
  • Do not maintain one constant speed, either slow or fast, for a long period of time.
  • Do not drive constantly at full-throttle or high engine rpm for extended period of time.
  • Avoid unnecessary hard stops.
  • Avoid full-throttle starts.
  • Do not tow a trailer.

Some of these are arbitrary and really left to interpretation. They could just as easily said "take it easy for the first 600 miles" or "don't drive like an a-hole". In other words, dont sweat it. Because they aren't. Further more, the text is also akin to saying, drive carefully and defensively. Which is how everyone is theoretically instructed to do so.

These rules are really hokus pokus IMHO as we aren't driving Detroit technology from the 80s. there are plenty of people here who don't read their manual, and this is an "enthusiast" site.

Hey, if anything your car avoided the weather and was in a temp controlled environment. That beats the dealer lot.

So your old rule of break-in is totally different from mine! Gentle and variable during the break-in period have served me well over the years. From Owner's Manuals:

For the first 1,000 km (600 miles) on Mazda CX-5:
  • Do not race the engine.
  • Do not maintain one constant speed, either slow or fast, for a long period of time.
  • Do not drive constantly at full-throttle or high engine rpm for extended period of time.
  • Avoid unnecessary hard stops.
  • Avoid full-throttle starts.
  • Do not tow a trailer.
For the first 1,000 km (600 miles) on Honda CR-V:
  • Avoid full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration.
  • Avoid hard braking.
  • Do not change the oil until the recommended time or mileage interval shown in the maintenance schedule.

thank you for all the replies. Before deciding on the CX5, i test drove the CRV and but did not get the car because the vibration issue. So far i am glad i got the CX5. I really like the way it drives. I know its a little silly but i also like the garage door opener very much.

I bought mine with 14 miles on the odometer, off the showroom floor. The way I see it, it was protected from the elements. Just had to give the seats a good once over and had to go back to the dealer as the Nav chip was missing.

I like the garage door opener too, just wish the buttons had a faint glow or something so you can see it at night.

thanks! Also i am delighted with the gas mileage. With about 200 miles (mostly local) driven, i am getting 30 mpg! However one thing i am puzzled over is the average speed, showing only 15 mph? my guess would have been around 30 mph. Not sure how is that calculated? simply dividing the miles by the time duration when the engine is running? - including waiting time in front of traffic light?

Press and hold the info button to reset the selected parameter. Might be more accurate in the short term. I believe it takes idling into consideration as well.

our auto dimming, homesense one has a soft red glow to the buttons when the light is low enough (other than the green on light)
