i installed my twm short shifter earlier this week, just wanted to share. i love it, it looks much better than the stock one. it seems a little stiff getting into the gears, but i'm guessing that'll wear off...or maybe i tightened a bolt a little too tight. it was much easier to install than i had expected, easier than even the headlight black out.

yea itll get lose after u break it in...lol. that and you'll get use to the feeling of it and won't even realize the notchy feeling.

Damn! I'm jealous. I have mine (K4RT80Y), it's sitting in my room, staring at me. Every time I get into my car, she begs for the new shifter, but the weather is terrible here, and not good for doing work on a car at all. Even the last oil change was pretty bad.

Weather will never stop me!!

it's really a lot easier than you'd expect. just take out the silver piece with the cupholders, then center console. remove the snap ring and the 2 other ring things under that. then get under the car and take out the bolt connected to the stock shifter, then the whole shifter, then put in the new ones, and put everything back together with your new shifter. putting the snap ring back is the hardest part, especially without snap ring pliers.

I don't think most of you, other than MTV perhaps, knows what I mean by cold. I'm talking -20 Celsius (on a nice day!), which is around -4 for all you American types. Hmm, actually it does sound like I'm just making excuses lol. I'll get around to it.

the chance of it losing up is unlikely, i'm coming up to 5 years and its the same for me. You will get use to it. Also changing tranny fluid to synthetic will help a lot.

The trick is to find one of those garages that lets you work on your own car for ~$10 and hour.

Man, I must be the only one on this forum who doesn't like the short shifter. I got a TWM and tried it for a while but absolutely hated everything about it.

Hated how it was so hard to shift, and how it threw off my shifts because the timing was difference. And how I couldn't tell whether it was in gear or not because it doesn't give you as much feedback. And I hated how short the thing was! lol to me the stock shifter's in the perfect position.

The only thing I liked about the shorty was how it looked, and even that wasn't much because the shift boot got scrunched up.

lol anyway sorry, don't mean to bash the shifter, but it seems everyone else absolutely loves it.

Yeah, I love my TWM. At first, i really really disliked how hard it was to go into gear, but, as stated, it does wear it some, or I wore in some. I dont know. But, did you also install the shift bushing? Or, just the short shifter?

And, I like the black knob. Makes me wish I'da gotten black over the satin.

And to you complaining about it being cold. Move. We're in the middle of Feb. and it's supposed to get 80 today and be sunny all day. Just thought I'd share that with the guys that are snowed in

I would have to agree with clicknext about the shifter not giving any feedback. I got used to timing my shifts with the shorter shifter, but not as much feedback as the stock shifter, and I guess I'm just a noob but it took me so long to hook the linkage up to the shifter because the small bushings kept falling out of place. I still like it though, just takes some getting used to

You can overtighten the bolt through the bottom of the shifter...If you put it too tight, it will feel very stiff and way too notchy...may want to play with it a bit and see if that helps....

and I always switch back to the stocker knob during the winter...those steel ones are freaking COLD in the winter..

I'm supposedly in the middle of winter and it's 80 degrees outside. Steel works fine for me. I can deal with it the 2-3 days it actually gets cold. lol

I did not know you can over tighten the bolt on the bottom. Hmm. I may have to fiddle with mine some.
