I had a good shop install my remote 3 months ago. I now decided to add DM. The office manager/receptionist asked the tech. Came back and told me the hardware and labor would be $100 since most of the work (the remote) was already done. She must have misunderstood the tech? I understand that 98% or the work is already done, but even on Amazon the 5400 is $150, unless there's some more basic unit? $100 for parts and labor can't be right, can it?

The shop may have misquoted you a bit low, *but* they do get kickbacks for activating the module and also part of the revenue for the monthly subscription.

I contacted them, they're installing the X1, which seems to retail at Best Buy for $199. I'm not sure what the difference between that and the 5400 is?

Simple. Look at this page...

5400 = GPS + LTE
X1-MAX = GPS + LTE + Battery backup

That's what I found, I just can't believe that their installing it for a total of $100 so I thought I must be missing something. I'll report back after Friday and give a shout out to the shop if there's Anyone in Phoenix looking for an install. They gave me a good price on the remote start 3 months ago, I just didn't think about the phone remote at the time. For those thinking "I just want a remote/don't need the app", I always have my phone so I figured it's easier to pull my phone out of my pocket than the key fob/remote.

I found out yesterday after some testing that you can actually use the app to lock your keys inside of your car. It's nice for cases where you will have your phone but don't want the bulk of the key (and the new 2020 keys are enormous :confused:).

I must have done something right this year as I am getting smoking deals lately. Yes, I did indeed get the X1 installed on my car (previously fitted with an Firstech remote start) for $100 installed. I realize that most of the install was done already with the remote started, but I asked how they could install the X1 for only $100 when the hardware alone sells on Amazon for $150. They said they get a real good price from Compustar since they order so much from them.

Yeah — you can find the X1 Max modules on eBay for like $85-95. I think Compustar wholesales them at pretty low prices. So that makes sense the installer could do it that cheaply.
