Shifter PROBLEM......anyone else had this happen?

I have been having problems recently shifting into 1st and 2nd gears. This has been especially dangerous since I have 2 small children in the car with me at times and when I go to pull out somewhere or turn in and have to downshift or take off and upshift it will not go into gear and I have almost been hit 3-4 times due to it. Do you think this should be fixed by Mazda since it could be a potentially fatal problem and seems like it shouldn't do this? Seems like there should have been some plate over the plastic or the metal arm on the shifter should be rounded or something right? Thanks guys.

for real? I am the only MS3 owner who has seen this happen or had this happen? I am not excessivley aggressive with my shifting nor do I race the car so does anyone think this to be a defective part?
