What has been your expeirence with the reliability of such wagons?
If memory serves you worked at a few dealerships.
Why did you pick it over the others?
The 5 is on the table as possible but she REALLY hates the looks of minivans.

They are all based on a cars well besides the Equinox and Torrent. They are just lifted and high roof wagons.
The 3 series wagons do have their issues. Cooling, cracking rear springs, and alot of dumb issues. I would buy one if i had the chance. Plus you can get parts from me when it does break cheaper than either Tulley or BMW of Stratham.

Is it a c230 or c240? 4matic or RWD? Be prepared to pay out your ass for repairs.

what about a subaru forester? You can get a used fully equipped one in your price range, maybe not a wagon per ce but has a car feel with the room for pups, kids, and you two all at the same time. They have great safety ratings, AWD, and are just a good "all around" vehicle.
Agreed on the sliding doors. Plus - when kids open sliders, the don't ding the car next door (mine!).
We picked the 5 because of the option of seating 6, but we are a family of 4, and I don't want to buy an SUV. Too big, too much fuel consumption, and the idea that SUV's are meant to drive off road... but no body does. So a wagon or 'space wagon', as Mazda calls it - were our options.
Big money on a family hauler makes no sense. Kids will destroy it (yes) reagardless of what you say or do. I tried to keep my VW TDI clean, but it the kids rule the back seat. Oh - and car seats... huge!!! Getting kids in & out, first w/ the infant carriers, then the rear seaters, then the forward seaters, then the boosters, then half bosters... geez.

mazda5, tons of internal space for the money and a decent driving car. i have one and save for the lack of power it has been a very useful and comfortable vehicle.

i bought an odyssey because i need the room. but the mazda 5 is nice. the only complaint is mileage. According the fuel.gov website it is about the same as some SUV's.

love love love our 5. doesn't look too minivan-ish, either. and thanks to mazdas resale value, you can pick one up for a great price.
how much bigger are the C class merc, 3 series, and A4 than say a 3? i know they look bigger on the outside but as i learned with my mom's envoy looks can be deceiving when it comes to interior room. i swear my 3 has as much storage space as her envoy with the only benefit she has is her interior is slightly wider
True. It's not a mini-van, it's not a wagon... It's actually a Mazda3 on steroids. Same frame, same components, and same to work on!

legacy wagon, if you prefer AWD... i wouldn't even bother spending the extra money on the turbo unless you really want it, I doubt the 3 would be enough room for your child and your two dogs
