Shaving side moldings

Hey everybody,

I'm considering shaving the side moldings on my 2003.5 silver P5. Does anyone have any input as to this? Specifically, do you think that it seriously increases my ding susceptibility? What about how it looks? Opinions? Thanx.

looks cheap, of course it raises the chance of dings - that is why it's on the car. If you decide to put a body kit on the car - then go for it.

Just my $0.02

I have a silver P5 with shaved side moldings, and, in my opinion, it greatly enhances the look of the car. To me, the lines of the car are much smoother and more appealing without the side moldings.

use the 3m spray adhesive remover and a whole lot of time...to get the high quality finished product there is also a how-to in the how-to section

Actually, I was referring to the sedan - it does look good on the P5. I saw a few Sedans at the dealership that didn't have molding yet - I just didn't like it.

In my opinion:

Side moldings make cars look cheap...That was one the first mods I did.
But, true, maybe on the sedan, at least you need flears or splash guards to complement.

shaving side moldings does make the car look cleaner and sleeker.

however, where i live thats jsut not an option. too many close parking spaces =(

Here is another question...I've had my car for two years now, it's Classic Red, and I live in Ohio so our summers are sunny but not everyday...and usually the car is garaged.

you think if I take off the molding that it will be noticable difference in the paint from sun fading?

Umm...The MP3's and MSP's don't have side moldings, and I love the way they look. Are they just glued on, or do they have holes for clips or something for the sedans?? I say go for it!! If your acr is, or will be lowered, those sidemoldings may not help as much anymore anyways. Or if you parked next to a taller car, it's still possible to get dinged...you just gotta take that chance.

I've had my car for 2 years and the paint underneath the moldings looks the exact same (never garaged or anything). The only problem is.. I'm too poor/lazy to get the 3m adhesive remover stuff and I've been trying to get the glue stuff to get off for the last 2 months. Maybe I should go out and get it? Hmm.. Oh yeah, I'm painting part of my lovely red car white and so far it looks great! I dare not show any pics until I'm finished, tho.

I've had my moldings off for two years and haven't had a ding yet(knock on wood)... I always park a few miles form civilization to help reduse the chance.
Anyway I love the look and its easy to do. Here's some pics..
