Shaking?

Two question for you guys. Mods: mm, cai, rp, dp, ap.

1. When I hit around 70+ the steering wheel shakes like crazy. I feel like it may be the road, but then again it does it on really smooth roads to. What you guys think.

2. So I have su mm for about 20K, and I can really feel the engine more when i left off the gas and when I just tap the throttle. When i let off the gas it feels like the engine is shifting to the front of the car, and when i press the gas I can really feel the engine kick back to the the back of the engine bay. Normal?

Sounds like you may have two problems. The vibration at 70+ could be an unbalanced tire (may have thrown a weight) and the engine shifting usually means a bad motor mount. Did you replace just one MM? Can you inspect the others for signs of failure?

+1 on the thrown weight. Could also be mud or other foreign substance on the inside of a wheel.

This.

As for the engine shifting positions, there will be a certain amount of movement. Especially under heavy load. The question is whether the movement you are feeling is something that's always been there & you're just now noticing (maybe due to the shaking steering wheel causing your spidey sense to twitch) or is something new & different, in which case you may want to inspect those motor mounts.

This is probably common sense, but I thought I'd add that if you're feeling it in the steering wheel, it's one of the front wheels/tires that is out of balance.

Thanks guys, ya the tire being unbalanced sounds very possible. As far as the mm go, I don't know what I should be looking for as signs of damage, plus I don't have access to a lift, but when I get my oil change next time I'll ask them to take a quick look. Thanks

Do you have stock or aftermarket wheels? In addition to the above, if an aftermarket wheel that has a larger center bore than the hub it's going on isn't centered upon mounting, it will shake at highway speeds.

If the MM did go bad you would be able to shake the top of the motor and see alot of play (north/south for MM) but before anything check the wheel weights, other than that you might have hit something that bumped it out of alignment but i say start small and go from there.

Ya I probably should have said that I hit something, and cracked my back passenger wheel bearing. It has since been replace. The wheel has a nice chunk out of hit. Possibly a dented rim is causing the shaking?
