im selling my p5 i think its time to upgrade. i have two choices. 2002 camaro 35th anv 6Speed LS1 loaded with leather t tops and power everything about 100k miles. My other choice is a 2003 Cadillac cts, real nice car about 110k miles. oh and its a 5 speed. new clutch, tires, belts, and all that jazz. what do you guys think? im going to check out the cars today, im leaning on the Cadillac as i dont want to get introuble with the camaro lol. anyone owned a CTS before and know their common problems?

Those are both a far departure from the P5 experience, but if you're ready for a switch, might as well go with what catches your eye. My ex had a 2006 CTS, and it was a great car. No problems in the first 50k, other than random stuff (weather stripping around windshield came off on freeway). I've never driven the Camaro, but it's probably fun. Both will take a gas mileage hit from what you're used to. And both will be less reliable.

What about an Audi A4 Avant? That's what I'd upgrade to if I wanted more power.

I know a guy with a CTS who had a bunch of problems with variable valve timing. I think extended warranty/ recall covered it, but he sure was pissed about a long runaround. So you might look into that.

thanks for the tips guys.. just got back from looking at the camaro and iam amazed. the car is soooo clean. drives smooth and hauls nuts. the guy really took care of it. im still waiting to look at the CTS tonight. yeah i know gas mileage is going to change drastically from what im used to but im ready lol. as far as the audi, id like to stay in the domestic side. i know the CTS will be just as expensive to maintain i just something domestic.

I work for Cadillac dealership in the parts department. I'd never recommend to anybody to get a 1st gen CTS. They are extremely un-reliable and very problematic. Let's just say this, we keep just about all the gaskets/seals for both the engine and transmission here.

Cadilacwould be cheaper on insurance but if you ever get bored with the camaro a lot of after market stuff is available. Depends if you want to go fast or cruise. Cadys are real good for traveling with a nice comfy ride

this probably sums it up.. im sticking with the camaro. its a real good deal, and sounds mean as hell.

I just saw a 2011 corolla S that was very slick....and probably throws out 35mpg or more too. Not sure where you are headed with this tho.........mpg/reliability/good resale or just some instant gratification/curb appeal/short term/poor resale/impractical/blast but not last all for fun kinda thing.

well just an update, i ended up buying a pristine 2002 35th anv. camaro LS1 six speed T-top... its got exhaust work, and a bunch of other things. its really fun to drive and reallllyyy fast.. gas mileage isnt the worst but its def not good lol but it makes up for it with the sweet sound of the ls1

Camaro is a POS. A friend has one, bought brand new and was in the shop more than it was on the road. Rattles, trans issues, rear axle/differential issues. Ran like a ***** ape, but typical chevy build quality.

hmm thats weird. ive owned a camaro before and it was awesome never had a problem. this one is also really nice no rattling, and trans shifts like butter. sounds like your friend bought a lemon.

I've never heard anything bad about camaros other than tread wear on the rear tires... you can't say all camaros are junk because your friend had one that had issues it happens I could say proteges suck because I have issues with mine but its previous owners not the car. Also did your friend rag the s*** out of it? The ls1 is one of the best motors made other than the series 2 3.8 which gm also makes

^that is true.. the ls1 is practically bullet proof they can Handel 500 HP on stock internals, and the t56 Borg Warner transmission is also very reliable.

I dont know much about Camero's however I own a 2007 Cadillac srx in Canada (not sure about the US models) with the 6cyl engines of the CTS and SRX there was a timing chain issue while it is common its not a recall item. It causes the timing to slip thus sending your engine to hell. I did a bit of research before I bought mine ended up with a v8 the northstar motors last forever however you will not enjoy the lack of gas mileage. By ur selection of a Camero or CTS I would assume gas mileage is not a concern. I would go with the Cadi for comfort but ina V8 model.
