SELL MSP or UPGRADE

Honestly, some of the MSP owners here are making us look bad:

- "I modded my MSP and now it's faster than a stock/modded SRT-4." No s***, Sherlock. I could take a $3k Civic and make it faster than your $15k MSP. Does that mean that the Civic is a better car than the MSP?

- "I sacrifice speed for looks." Hm... Rice, anyone? Secondly, looks are subjective. Saying the MSP is better because it looks better isn't going to help the topic starter, unless he can't decide for himself whether he thinks one looks better than the other.

- "(see i said dumber, thats not a word)" Yes, it is.

When I say I can put money into a bad ugly civic and make it go fast it'sbecasue thats what I feel about an srt-4. when I sad i gaveup some speed for looks, isn't it true?

I perfer my msp over the srt-4 just becase its such a sexy car. Im not saying you cant make msp's go fast, its already proven that they can. limmited production car and ppl putting out great numbers is great

if he wants an ugly car that can go fast buy an srt-4
if he wants a good looking car that can go fast stick with the msp

And what if he thinks the SRT-4 looks better? It's one thing to argue using credible data, and another to argue by imposing one's own beliefs.

this is true.

In reality do you think ppl like the interior of an SRT-4?

I don't think I would mind (based on pictures). After all, I degraded from a Lexus interior to the MSP's and I've honestly felt no difference... Exact for the crap seats; the SRT's are better aren't they?

Im pretty sure they have viper seats. You seem more of an srt-4 guy. Why did you choose the msp over the srt4?

Looks are subjective, and racing interiors is a fall back for someone who has run out of excuses (69RMSP). Personally I like the looks of the MSP, MP3 ect. although I cant remember what the interior looks like I sure it serves its purpose, after all its not like any of us drive exotics. I find my viper buckets comfortable and functional especially around fast corners.

I don't need to be playing around with a 14 second car at my age. Honestly, I didn't know how to drive stick before I got this car so I couldn't test drive anything, so I just picked what sounded good based on reviews and features.

I remember someone mentioning the M3 earlier in this thread. Actually, the E36 M3 would be a good pick for the topic starter; it sells used for about $15k or so with okay miles, and it's definitely competitive with STis and Evos.

The average stock time I guess is around 15 seconds.

So lets see some of your track times then if you hand him his ass EVERYTIME lol. Or maybe he's just driving normally not realizing your racing him (hah). Stock SRT-4 turbo loses effeciency at about 19psi. Only with Water/Alcohol Injection can you run more. BTW, the fastest stock turbo/no nitrous SRT is in the high 11's, care to comment on the fastest stock turbo MSP?

I have never taken the car to the strip. Never planned on it, never will. The car wasnt built to go in a straight line, it was built for road racing and autoX and if you do some searching on my build threads, you can see that that was the plan since day 1. That, and the closest drag strip is 4 hours away. It does however do a very adequate job passing everything from 996 porsche turbo's, lotus elises, turbo'ed miatas, Z06 corvettes, evo's, sti's, rx-8s, most rx-7's (there is a 650hp local monster that is ungodly quick) and on a rare occasion a Ferrari 355 (the owner only comes out to track days twice a year). So i'm really ok with the fact that i dont have a time slip to show you. I actually built a car to drive to the limits and make my car an ALL AROUND performer.

As for commenting on the fastest stock turbo MSP? I dont know, i would suspect that we will never know because I own the highest HP and most modified MSP on the boards running a stock turbo, and i never plan to make a pass down the 1320 strip.

The bikering is useless and were not going to come to a conclusion. I give you guys props on having quick cars, and i'm sure if you were to see mine in action you would give me the benefit of the doubt that this isnt all just talk.

I have allways said that its cool that they are so easy to make quick, and you can do it under warrenty. But dont expect MSP owners, on a MAZDA board to like it when you guys show up here flexing your e-penis on how the SRT-4 is gods gift to motorsports, because to us, and to most people, its just not.

Isn't it just amazing how the MSP, though approximately 70whp down on the SRT-4 (stock for stock), is able to pull more lateral Gs in a slalom test?
I spanked an SRT-4 (while I was stock, the SRT-4 wasn't) through a series of medium-high speed corners with varying inclines. The SRT-4 driver grabbed the inside line and I ate him on the outside. He almost lost control of his car, luckily he didn't. To me, a drag race NEVER can be as gratifying as that.

p.s. for those of you in South FL. this was against a yellow SRT-4 (commonly seen on I-595) heading North on the turnpike and exiting at 595 heading west. As you all know, that series of corners is just absolutely amazing. Oh, and there was no risk to any other driver on the road :)

Check out the One Lap of America Results for 2005

The SRT-4 got 8th place, the closest Mazda (an RX-7) got 35th place.

All you guys can brag about is Auto-X domination, but for real racing, drag or road course, i hardly seen any MSP's racing. Its cause the MSP's suck at high speed tracks like The Glen or Pocono. Of course you could always brag about beating a Viper in a parking lot (hah)

disapointing...I wasnt saying the RX7 is the god of all cars I was using it as an example. How power is not everything.

You have alot to learn about racing. YOu dont know anything about "lap across America."

Its not even a serious race. So the SRT-4 got more points then a 996 TT porsche. Does that mean its a better car? oh it must be better then a Mustang GT and it must be better then a 996 TT (GT2). BS I would take a porsche over a bad little neon anyday.

Have you seen the track? ITS A ******* CANNONBALL RALLY. how can you take it seriously? you bascially drive from point A to point B as fast as you can. STop light, highway traffic and all its not even a real track.

I dont give a **** if your SRT-4 has 10,000 hp, can break the sound barrier and deafeat terrorism while spewing out puppies out its exhaust.

HEre you go dousche..there a Racing protege that consistently place top 10 in speed world challege. A real race sponsored by SCCA and Speed channel. SCCA pro level racing. It has been replaced by the 6 but Tripoint raced the PRotege

Hows seabring or Laguna seca for a "real road course"

Other then SCCA rally racing I dont see any SRT-4 competing in pro-level touring car racing. And the SRT-4 was in its own class in SCCA Rally. A class taht barely had any challenge at all. And the driver was fat was huge...needs to go on a diet. Dodge/Mopar do alot of NHRA drag racing though..

You have lost complete respect from me. To me you are just another SRT-4 tool who talks a crap load of s***.

#1 Ice inital post wasnt instulting the SRT-4 at all. he was saying how he like the interior of the MSP. And then SRT-4 had to go through PMS.

When the 03 SRT-4 came out the times were 1 sec apart. its faster because of mopar stage 1 standard.

i have the motor trend issue where they tested out hte SVT focus, MSP and SRT-4

2003 SRT-4
power: 215 @ 5400 rpm
0-60 mph: 5.4
1/4 mile: 13.9 @ 101.9 mph
Breaking: 112 ft
600 ft slalom, mph: 66.6
200 ft, g: .86
Lap time/max rack speed: 1:07.29/94 mph

MSP
power: 170 @6000 rpm
0-60 mph: 6.8
1/4 mile: 15.1 @ 92.5 mph
Breaking: 115 ft
600 ft slalom, mph: 69.5
200 ft, g: .87
Lap time/max rack speed: 1:07.85/84 mph

I beleive they ran on willow creek race way. A pretty good course.

so like I said. Exactly what I said when I test drove both cars. The torque made the SRT-4 feel alot quicker but the soft suspention setting felt more uncomfotable and less tight around corners. You actually felt the car flex. From what I felt it needed wider tires and some siffening. The MSP had needed a bit more power but I felt alot more confident in that car going around corners. But according the the magazine the MSP didnt do that bad considering it had less HP. And the SRT-4 did good considering it had no LSD.

I got $3K off and an extra $2K on my trade in. Making my out the door price around $18K for everything. It had an LSD (2003 SRT-4 had no Quaife ATB). Awsome sound system and I just felt more confident in the car. and I was looking for a good car for Stock class racing in SCCA/Martin Motorsport. So it was a no brainer. at the time the MSP was the better value. Since then Dodge added stage 1 standard on SRT-4s....and MSP was out of production.

But saying that a SRT-4 matches up to a EVO and STi is BS. Maybe in drag racing from a roll. But interms of road racing we are driving a FWD car. Their corner exit acceleration will be faster then any FWD car. When they break it acts like a FWD car when weight transfers to the front. But when they accelerate out of the corner the weight transfer back to its Rear wheels which are spining and will give them grip. on a FWD car we dont have the luxury of spining Rear wheels.

Although my initial intent for my car was actually auto-x and road racing, I also emphasize on power production, believe it or not. My first mods were wheels and suspension. I had to do something about the ride height and body roll, now I feel my car is well ballanced, power and handling wise.
