(braindead Ok I go to the Dealer to have my MS3's faulty driver's side wheel bearing replaced at 600 miles(eyeballs) ( I was told i'm the second person to have this problem):'(

I... kindly ask the service advisor this morning ,since I drove 25 miles to get here and I'm a bit concerned my brand new car has a problem already could you have the tech turn the seat belt chime off? and also check the front engine mount, as I hand him color photos of other engine mounts from here that had failed.

When he said that would be 50 bucks! I said: you have to kidding me(wow) It takes like 3 minutes to do this for a customer and besides you could create some dealer loyalty in this situation. I'm not asking for free oil, simply a service?
Anyways to his credit, he went ahead and took care of the cost on the chime and did it for free. Or as he said "I'll pay for it"

My question is is this normal at a Mazda dealer? since I've only had VW's in the past

Because some people don't want the car to tell them what to do. (jerkit)

It's a great feature, all cars should have it on all seats

^ LOL...I guess.....I mean if you have a serious reason why, then its ok. BUt just cause you don't like something on your chest or around your waist...seems dumb.

There is no reason not to wear a seatbelt....and if there is, maybe you shouldn't be in a car.

^^ I have heard of people with nerve damage that can't wear seatbelts. They have legal reason not to. as well as other people. So that is understandable.

but not for any other reason.

Refer to part 2 of my original statement...I would seriously reconsider operating or at least riding in the front of a motor vehicle. One accident could kill you. If you didn't go through the windshield, the airbag could kill you. I'm not saying that one shouldn't be allowed to be in a car but they should rethink their situation especially if they have children or a family.

All others: no excuse.

I wish they'd charge more for that sort of thing. If you aren't going to wear your seatbelt, have fun when your airbag goes off and kills you.

Thanks for the replies kids:)

Why do it then? I'm not trying to be an ass but why do you want it done?

Oh, and I don't know if you can say all Mazda dealers are like that....just most dealers of any manufacturer are like that as far as my dealings.

I think the logical response would be - if you wear your seatbelt, then how would the chime even bother you (let alone hear it).

I drive the dealer cars alot and all the new mazdas have that chime. the only time they annoy me is when Im in the parking lot (bringing a car to detail, parking it back, moving it for delivery, etc) but whenever Im actually DRIVING the vehicle its on, and not an annoyance.

I dont mind that you dont wear a seatbelt if you dont want :p thats your perogative. Just makes no sense to have it turned off if you wear your seatbelt in the first place. If you DONT, then I would understand.

Sample situation... You take the wife to go shopping and prefer sitting in the car reading the latest C&D magazine. Its hot/cold so you have the car on with the heat/ac running. Your in a parking space and the car is not moving...Guess what, the instant you unbuckle the belt it starts beeping at you....Your not driving the car isnt moving why should you be required to wear your belt.....
Either way my dealer took 30 seconds to deactivate the chime for free for me....

come to a complete stop....shut the car off, take your seat belt off, then turn it back on. Boom no more chim and no seat belt.

Holy s***! All this over a seatbelt chime. I will say that I personally ALWAYS, ALWAYS wear my seatbelt and often I will refuse to even move the car unless everyone else is buckled up - Ask my wife.

Now that being said, I have disabled the seat belt chime on every car I've ever had! They are annoying and I DON'T need the chime.

Why must we get on a soap box for a topic like this! I say good job, good post (about asking the question and posting the answer)) and I'm sorry for most of the responses.

the reality is that it stops chiming after 2 minutes anyway... so its still pointless to deactivate...

Like I said I could care less who is and isnt wearing their seatbelt (unless theyre in my car). I was just trying to see the logic...

Wow, I thought we were getting back on topic but then people want to come in here and "drama" it all back up with their off topic $0.02.

Either way, I'm sure we are all sorry about the misunderstanding but I'm still unsure why you would want it done.

I still stand by my statement on the dealers though. Maybe VW dealers are better or you had a great VW dealer.

I prefer to have my seatbelt reminder removed, and the airbag replaced with a giant steel spike. Anybody have a problem with that? ;)

Glad your service guy decided to take care of you, eventually.
