yea i will remove the CF hood, as for the cams and flywheel i doubt they could tell, I have a few guys that could use the bigger brakes for sure- thanks for the infoOrthonormal said:By themselves, the brakes would be legal for STX but not STS. The same goes for the midpipe, unless the stock catalytic convertors are used and mounted in exactly the same locations.
Things which keep you out of STX and STS: Carbon fiber hood, cams, flywheel, clutch. The midpipe is okay for STX only if it has a catalytic converter mounted within 6" of the stock location.
You can run Street Mod, or possibly Prepared.

I third. There's no huge purses in SCCA. You race, really, to beat yourself. Cheating like this (and that is what it is) goes against everything Auto-x is about.Vanimaniac said:Gonna have to agree with that statement.
Van
That's a crappy attitude to have. It's one thing to run in a class with illegal minor cosmetic mods (like the wrong shift knob in Stock, for example), it's another thing to run in a class with illegal go-fast parts (like cams and a flywheel).FC3s Boy said:yea i will remove the CF hood, as for the cams and flywheel i doubt they could tell, I have a few guys that could use the bigger brakes for sure- thanks for the info
Seat time > No Seat Time, no matter what class you're in.katya4me said:It's a decision everyone has to make. I have a J spec cam sitting at home, but if I install it, I'll have to compete in a class that I don't want to be in. STS is hard enough as it it. And I compete w/ and against friends, so I wouldn't want to cheat. My local club is the only group that I do autoxes w/ that doesn't run classes. So, my turboed Miata friend just does those autoxes since he is not ready to even consider attempting SM2.
flywheel and clutch are both OEM mazda MSP assembliesxelderx said:cat back exhaust---stock legal
short ram intake----moves you to STS
flywheel---moves you to STS
clutch---depends on type
short shifter---moves you to STS
plugs---heh---irrelivant
wires---probably STS
The deciding factor is the clutch. If it's anything more than the stock equivilant it puts you in F-SP
I'm pretty sure thats right.
No-sorry. Flywheel is NOT legal in Street Touring (STS/STX/STU/STS2) None. And neither are the cams.xelderx said:The flywheel is legal in STS/STX. Cams put you in Prepared I believe.
Ah sorry...just went back and checked and you are correct. The flywheel goes to FSP. I keep getting the rules mixed up since I've had to race the car in 3 different classes this year. I couldn't decide whether I wanted to run R compounds or not. Thanks for the correction and for sounding like my father.Imp said:No-sorry. But hey, if you wanna cheat for that $1.00 trophy.. that's your perogative.
Doesn't matter. The only clutch and flywheel allowed in STS or STX is the OEM or OEM replacement part for your specific vehicle. You can't stick MSP parts in an MP3 any more than you could stick them in an RX-8.TXMazdaSpeeder said:flywheel and clutch are both OEM mazda MSP assemblies
