Scary moment for me and my mp3

Alright, i was going to my roller hockey game with 2 of my buddy's in my car, and i was driving down this winding(sp) road. The road goes from 30 to 40 as soon as you are exiting the last turn. I am in 4th gear going around the last turn, and i went to downshift into 2nd and all of a sudden my gearbox locked up, and all i had was fourth gear. I could take it out of fourth gear but i could not move it up into 3rd, nor could i move beyond themiddle of the gearbox, meaning that i couldn't even move it over to try 1st and second. I tried 5th, it would go up to 5th but it wouldn't engage. At this point i was pretty upset. i pulled over my car to check it out, and i ran out of ideas other than to just force it over beyond the middle of the gearbox, i tried that and it broke the lock on it, and i regained all of my gears. Does anyone have any clue on what happened?

There are a few things you can check. I noticed in your sig that you have a B&M short throw shifter. Make sure it is seated properly. If you have an older model that didn't use a clip, it may have popped loose and caused the shifter to get stuck. Another thing to check are your motor mounts. If there is excessive play in the drivetrain, the gears may not be lining up properly. Hopefully your shifter fork is not starting to fail. Good Luck.
