ScanGauge and DashHawk?

Hey DailyDriver -

You have a point about life being short, but I keep cars a looong time - my '96 Contour SE to 180K, and the '99 Pontiac - now my wife's ride - is now at 165K. Even if the ScanGauge doesn't furnish oil pressure I think it'd be useful. I agree, I think Mazda is weaseling out of this because of possible liability, although their rep did email me back and thank me for clarifying the issue. We'll see...

There are plenty of OBD2 compliant gadgets that will give you more info than you ever needed to know about your car. DashHawk, Scangauge, Aeroforce Scan Gauge, DashDaq, Magden gauges, etc.

Everyone can find something they like that doesn't involve tearing into their wiring.

I dig it. I've kept several cars past 180k miles and others past at least 130k... but I've never noticed a drop in oil pressure over time that was any cause for concern. All those engines seemed to be in excellent condition internally even after many miles, oil pump / internal bearing related issues were the least of my worries with any of those cars.

ScanGauge got back to me and said that their ScanGauge II product should work on the `10 MS3, and IF there are any incompatibility issues, they'd be happy to take it back within 30 days for a full refund. Sounds good.

Kewl. Thanks for the info. I think I'll spring for the ScanGauge. Maybe Mazda will deign to reply with some real info. LOL!

I would quote your post DD, but it's too damn long.

I've mentioned on the car that with proper readers you can read both IAT and BATs, and see the delta temp change. My most used screen on my DH is boost/vac (PSI), Intake air temp, and boosted air temp. My other screen is IAT, BAT, ambient temp, and coolant temp, especially in the winter months.

I've seen the SG2 in person, and it's nice, but I do know that you sometimes have to program in the PID codes to read certain parameters. The DH doesn't have this problem.

Thanks for all of the info DailyDriver. I still cant beleive the lack of gauges on this car. Oil Pressure and coolant temp should be standard on any performance car in my opinion.

DH & SG are both ok, but you should take a look at Ultragauge. Its does all that they do and its only $39. They don't offer it in stores, its only available on their website: ultra-gauge.com You could buy four Ultragauge for the price of one SG. I prefer the large display yet compact body of UG. Its much easier to mount. They have a promotion now where they are giving away a windshield mount too. Hard to believe they can offer it at that price

The Scangauge will show those, I have one. It is just a simple hookup to the obd2 port.

i have one as well for my m3 4 door.... however... i just cant find a good place to mount it. if i put it on the steering wheel column, it block my view of the gas gauge. any place in particular you guys put it?

I have an ultragauge in my cx9 its a very nice gauge. They aren't as cheap as when first introduced, but still a heck of a deal. They are easier to set up and program than the scangauge 2 I know since I own both. The scangauge 2 has a few more options but for the money I don't think ill be buying any more. And no I have no affiliation with ultragauge, do a simple search online like scangauge versus ultragauge or the like, also look into MPG forums like ecomodder they have been testing and using them for a while.
