Sat - Aux

After purchasing my MS3 GT I was disappointed to find out the AUX port is disabled. I'm not a huge fan of satellite radio and would like to use my ipod instead. Where is the plug for the AUX port that needs to go into the back on the HU?

If you remove the headunit you should find it pretty quickly. It branches off from those wires that run above the headunit and behind the LCD. I unplugged the satellite radio also since I just wanted to use the AUX for my ipod.

So it is behind the HU, I guess that means I wasn't searching hard enough. Is it behind the glove box or out in the open?

Mine was tucked behind the LCD. I wanted to use both, so I bought the switchbox - now the center console input and the Sirius work!

what about the plug in the center council??

By default, when they install Sirius, they unplug the connector for the center console input.

Yeah its behind the headunit. To find it is just easier to remove the head unit totally. The cable may be routed so it goes down behind the plastic in the back, just look for one of those cables thats wrapped in the grey foam stuff like the others are and pull it out. It's not behind the glove box either, it should be straight behind where the headunit was. Just look at the cables near the air vents, it branches down from there and gets hidden somewhere in the back in those cable routing areas. I found it pretty easily and I don't know much about cars / car electronics... yet.

I found the aux plug tucked away and connected to the HU. It works the only problem is interference noise is bad. I'm going to try another cable to see if that one works better.

Do you have your ipod hooked up to a charger via cigarette lighter? if you have it charging from the cigarette lighter it will make a lot of interference.

I have the ipod charging in the 12v outlet next to the aux port. As soon as I unplug the charger the noise goes away. Guess I'm buying a ground loop isolator :)

You could just get the ipod connector for the stock headunit. Or, you could upgrade your headunit to an aftermarket one and get an ipod connector for that. The ipod connector for the stock headunit is a little expensive but its worth it guess if you don't want to have to do the ground loop thingy. Plus you can control the ipod using your steering wheel controls! The ipod connector is also something you can do yourself. It connects where the AUX input connects on the back of the headunit, you would just replace the connector and then run it down through the center console to the arm rest compartment. You can pop out the AUX jack there and just feed the ipod connector through it.

+1! Hey Boost Driven, I don't know who told you the AUX input was disabled but they are completely wrong. I have a MS3 GT and the one in the center console works great for me. What exactly are you trying to do, connect an MP3 player? Mine works...

Hey M3Zoom, do you have an iPod or a regular mp3 player?

If your car comes with Satellite radio then your AUX input is disabled. Its not really disabled it just unplugged because the satellite radio and the AUX input plug into the same spot on the back of the headunit and you can only have one plugged in at once. So basically if you have satellite you can just unplug the satellite and plug the AUX back in or you get the switching box mazda offers so you can switch back and forth.

My car came with Satellite radio because it was the only black MS3 GT they could find for me. I didn't want the satellite radio but it came with it, so I had to take the headunit out and plug in the AUX harness to the back of the headunit for my AUX connector in the center console to work.

Is the AUX iPod connector ONLY for the iPod? I mean does no other mp3 device work with the thing?

The AUX connector works with any MP3 with one of those 1/8" output jacks. The iPod connector that Mazda sells for our headunits only works with iPods and it takes over the spot on the back of the headunit where the AUX connector is plugged in. So you'd have to get a switching box if you still wanted to use both the AUX input and the iPod connector.
