Wow! This sucks balls. The RX-8 is rated at 250hp and loses over 70hp on the dyno. :wtf:

I guess I'll get it just for looks

Tell me that's just a fluke from one car.

I really, really hope so:( Cause I'm planning to get one when I graduate from college. In about 3 years.

Oh well, there's always turbo:D

Don't they come with automatics as well? Maybe they tested an auto and it lost the HP in the torque converter...If that sounds way out of left field, it's okay...It's 1 AM and I'm a little on the drunk side....(drinks)

Maybe it was the base model then.....It doesn't say it was the 250HP one, does it??

Let me clear some things up.

I've been following that thread closely, there were 3 RX-8s (all are 6 speeds) that were dyno'd, and all 3 returned whp ranging from 178-185 hp.

one of the dynos also mapped the A/F mixture ratio during the run, and Paul Yaw (www.yawpower.com), one of the best known rotary tuner in the country, took a look at the A/F mapping and said most likely the ECU is running the car overly rich at high rpm, to protect it for the first few thousand miles.

If you read that thread carefully, there was also an example where someone scanned a page in the factory service manual of a 2nd gen RX-7, and it showed that the ECU will switch to a new fuel mapping AFTER 20,000 miles.

basically, the RX-8s are essentially running in 'break-in mode' until a certain mileage has been reached, and then hello full power.

btw, Paul Yaw is currently testing and building a supercharged RX-8 to compete in the Speed World Challenge GT series next season.

So basically the car is a turd until 20,000 miles? Yeah I'd spend the assload of money for a car like that. :wtf:

Did I ever make this a NEON vs. RX8 thing? No. I simply stated that if you're gonna pay the money for an RX8, it better perform better than that stock...sheesh.

You haven't been here for too long so you may not know that you inadvertantly did. Neons are referred to as turds and skittles by some on this board. Now you know....and knowing is half the battle!
