Center armrest latch/lock removal. Plastic catch has broken off. Help!

2016 CX-5 Center armrest catch/lock removal. Plastic catch has broken off. Ordered new one but cannot remove broken latch. Help!

I added some magnets I got from Amazon and left the latch in place. It works great, better than it did with the latch.

Thanks for that option. There must be a way to remove the latch as it is mounted on a small fulcrum-like metal piece. Might have to cut it out with a dremel tool, but hope to find someone with experience removing the latch assembly.

You have to be careful closing it or there's no question that the latch will break. Best thing to do is squeeze the latch before you lower it and once it's lowered in position release your grip on it otherwise the mechanisms make contact on the way down and eventually the plastic will break.

I think to disassemble the lid of the console it involves unsnapping certain parts, but I have never done it.
