RX-8 dynos 178hp

why wouldn't people drive this car daily? If it was designed to be a weekend toy then it wouldn't have THOSE REAR SEATS.

this car is a TRUE 4 SEATER with TRUE SPORTSCAR driving dynamics.

I know when I get it it'll be my only car/daily driver, and I will be racking up miles VERY quickly :D

So I need a 2 seater sports car for me to baby it with mileage?

Rear seats doesn't mean a thing. My friend has a neighbor with a Bently. The only time that car sees the sun is when its being washed. He doesn't drive it at all.

My uncle has a 1990 5.0 Mustang. The car has under 50K original miles. Those had rear seats also.

Its all about what the car is to you. You buy it, you can do whatever the hell you want to it. Whether you rag the mess out of it or you treat is as a King, its still your car.

Thanks to everyone for the info , it was helpful. NOW COULD WE PLEASE AVOID THE TURD WORD !!!!!! (BUTT)

Boo ******* whoooo!!! What kind of people take out a new car and beat the living s*** out of it? I don't care if a salesman told you it was broken in at factory, you break an engine in properly. All the RX8 is doing is making sure you break it in properly. I seriously doubt it's 20k miles, it's probably more along the lines of 2k-3k miles. Then it will fly.

I just got back from looking at one. I was considering buying one. Then I thought about my issurence cost. Good thing to know about the break in period.

Did I ever make this a NEON vs. RX8 thing? No. I simply stated that if you're gonna pay the money for an RX8, it better perform better than that stock...sheesh.

yeah and to bad neon would kick the s*** outa the rx8

why doesn't anyone understand what ZoomZoomH is saying here? Get off your high horses people...you need to break the RX-8 in; if you're so impatient, then you don't deserve to drive or own the car..

ahahahah break in period of 20,000

muahahhaah you shitheads are retarded

The break in period is not 20,000 miles shitface. Its closer to 3,000. And its a 4-seat sports coupe, and thank good it doesnt have crank windows in the back.

Let me clear some things up.

I've been following that thread closely, there were 3 RX-8s (all are 6 speeds) that were dyno'd, and all 3 returned whp ranging from 178-185 hp.

one of the dynos also mapped the A/F mixture ratio during the run, and Paul Yaw (www.yawpower.com), one of the best known rotary tuner in the country, took a look at the A/F mapping and said most likely the ECU is running the car overly rich at high rpm, to protect it for the first few thousand miles.

If you read that thread carefully, there was also an example where someone scanned a page in the factory service manual of a 2nd gen RX-7, and it showed that the ECU will switch to a new fuel mapping AFTER 20,000 miles.

basically, the RX-8s are essentially running in 'break-in mode' until a certain mileage has been reached, and then hello full power.

Yup, what he said.

Smolten, even if you told me a car has 4 wheels and that dogs bark i would still consider you an idiot.

Just had to get that out.

Sorry if its out of the topic.

Here's a pic of a Lada just barely beating a Ferrari on the 1/4 mile.

What a waste! Guys, if you want a real car, go test drive an S2000. The S2000 will kill the RX8 any day of the week.

And for any of you that say, "well I'll just put a turbo on it", Well, I can do the same for the S2000 and still beat the pants off the RX8.

S2000 with Comptech supercharger = 295 to 310 RWHP
S2000 with Vortec supercharger = 300 to 320 RWHP
S2000 with T3/T4 turbo with Emanage or AEM EMS = 350 to 400 RWHP
S2000 with built motor from Mike Simon and turbo = 450 to 500 RWHP

Any questions?

Now, if you want to talk about looks. Put the S2000 and the RX8 rear ends side by side and see how Mazda copied the S2000 Rear end. The front of the RX8 is just ass ugly in my opinion.

RX8 = waste of money unless you are just a die hard rotary fan.

I gotta agree with big ben :D

Would it not be wise to turbocharge a high compression ratio engine like the Honda S2000 (BIG-BEN!!), RSX-S or the RX-8? The s2000 and RSX-S have 11:1 compressions, the Mazda Proteges have 9.1:1. In reality, I think boosting puts a lot of engines on fairer ground. Then, it's the rest of the car, and driver, that prove their worth!
I can go on for hours telling you about the technology in the F20C. First of all, it comes stock with forged pistons and forged rods. Second, the cylinder walls are reinforced with a fiber mesh that is impregnated into the aluminum alloy. If you stay at the recommended boost levels of 6psi that the Comptech and the Vortec superchargers suggest, it is completely safe. If you do go with higher boost, better fuel control and timing control is needed.

the s2000 only has 153 lb-ft torque. that's not a great, either
I never said it was. But I rarely notice the lack of torque. Once the RPM builds, it has PLENTY of torque.:D Slap on the comptech and that torque problem is quickly remedied.:D

Yeah the rx8 has no lowerable windows at all.. like a sauna back there

hell it has no door handle..

how the **** do u get out in an emergency... oh yeah u don't !!!!:D :D :D

S2000 with built motor from Mike Simon and turbo = 450 to 500 RWHP
Oh,........ and did I mention that his rebuilt cylinder head with all titanium valvetrain and dual titanium valve springs makes the motor capable of reving to 11,000rpm.:D
