you've got to be shitting me!!!!!! an eclipse or talon weighs over 4,000lbs? i don't even think those fat bastard 3KGT VR-4's. not calling you a liar but this i've got to check into.
well now hang on...woops, I meant a hair UNDER 2 tons...the GSX my friend owns weighs a bit under 4K, like 3900 and change...yah, i didn't believe it either, but he says it because of the AWD components. Now the GS-T is different, obviously cuz it it is only FWD. GS-T's are the sh*t, if you don't mind replacing splines, clutches, and rebuilding trannys. :D

ok, I'll step in here as I figure I might have at least soem knowledge on the subject... (he he...)

The gsl-se was produced in 84 and 85, and bothe were basically identile with an exception of the 85 haveing a taller 5th gear.

They all came with 4 wheel disk brakes, vented in the front, LSD, 13b fuel injected engine rated at 135hp/133ftlbs from teh factory. They all came pretty much flat loaded with sunroof, power everything, etc etc etc.. About the only option were a glass roof, Power steering and I beleive a very few of them came witout leather.

These cars can outrun any of the non-turbo 2nd gens in a heartbeat. (most of them don't know that, but its fun to show them) The advantage is the lower weight 1st gen body. (2300-2600 depending on the car)

Ok, on to 2nd gens...

If you're looking for a turboII to build up, keep your eyes open for an 89-91 model, as they had more power outta the box. They generally cost more, but not all of the owners know they shoudl so deals can be found.
exxxxcellent info...thanx rx7gslse, man with Mazdas...:D

hey. do you have any more pics of your car if its the one in your avitar? if so send them to me would ya?i like the color

Fc's are great. I have owned 3 and love them to death . Unfortunately i need to get another family car and a better daily driver. Mine is an 88 T2 with 113k and still runs like new. I have minor mods(exhaust, s-afc, 720cc injectors, j-spec turbo, external wastgate, FCD, and i have ran 13.8 at the track . It doesnt take a lot of money to mod an rx if you can do the work yourself. If you have to take it somewhere it can get expensive do to the fact there are not that many rotary guys left out there, let alone ones that know how to do mods correctly. If you know anyone looking for an fc let me know mine is for sell. Even though im selling the 7 im still staying with mazda and getting a 6s or MSP. I have driven both and basically just have to come to a final decision. I hope you get an FC and if you ever need any help just pm me and i'd be more than glad to assist

and odds are if you do take it to somebody they're going to **** it up because most mechanics even some of Mazda's own certified pride and joy don't know there ass from the apex seal.

this is part of the reason why the rotary engine got such a bad rep after the 3rd gen 7's came out. you take the car in becuase its not acting or performing correctly. odds are it was something simple enough like a vaccume line that blew off. one of the overly qualified but half witted techs says "oh,well it looks like your engine is shot and probably your turbos". well there's an assload of money right down the drain.

do yourself a favor if you do end up getting an FC and find one of the many rotary specific shops and tuners if your going to be modding the car or if there's something seriously wrong with it you can't fix yourself. might cost you more but you'll thank yourself and the guys at the RX-7 forum in the end

yeah if you really cant handle it, take it to a professional.

but from my experiences, with a good set of tools, confidence, and a Haynes/FSM, you can do ANYTHING to your car.

all work (aside from my engine rebuild) was done by me. that included exhaust work, turbo modification, intake modification...

in the end, its really simple stuff...just gotta keep your wits with ya.

I would have to say go with the TURBO II. For example
these two pics are of my 89 turbo II, definitely more go than show, notice the greddy type R wastegate dump tube sticking out of the bottom of the car, it comes w/the 20G turbo kit

bout $20k or so if you're lucky

Kevin, show them if you want. i'll throw up a couple of mine once i get home maybe. they're from the morning i got my car. The_Glassman and i stayed up all night cleaning it/changing oil/coolant and probably a couple other things as well. lots of fun and the only problem i had with it was with the power window on the drivers side. an actuator or somethig snapped
