Running No Exhaust

I got emissions inspection on the car yesterday. I've got an intake, both OEM cats and a magnaflow catback. I don't have the DEP sheet handy, but I remember seeing that my readings were ~7/350 and 8/654 in terms of actual and limits, respectively.

I've got a number of friends who remove the cat back and drive on it daily. Just for s****, I'm thinking of trying this and having a friend run emissions again.

Is there any side effects to worry about from the obvious legality, noise, and backfiring issues?

If this works out well, I may plan to (temporarily) replace the primary cat with a test pipe and rerun the tests. Possibly further the experiment with a high flow cat if all goes well.

Mind you I am not out there to be a douche and pollute, I just want some numbers for myself, and possibly others.

Thoughts?

Hmm, health issues? Carbon Monoxide poisioning? The emissions will not change if you remove the cat-back, you aren't removing any emissions equipment.

BTW, are your friends from another more western VA? That sounds really redneck like.

Hah, no. I am in the fairfax area, the friends are all local, not exactly hillbilly..mods all done on import cars.

One drives a 3.5L altima, and recently removed the cat back, which produced a very noticable increase in butt dyno. Logically I agree, there shouldnt be a change in emissions, but I am hard headed and still believe there to be a difference if there is a change in that much airflow.

Most of the butt dyno increases are because of the noise. Not exactly the nicest thing to do to other commuters and your neighbors...

There won't be any signifigant emissions changes, there will be easier flow, and a HP or two at high RPM.

I prefer quiet HP. But I'm a 28 year old old fart.

Like I said it'd only be on for a few days.
I'm into environmental science and conservation, polluting isn't exactly my thing. The extremely low numbers have just sparked my interest.

I found with my crown vic, that I pulled a few emissions components off of, that it put 0's out. That car had cam, heads, intake manifold, ECU, headers, gears, trans, fuel pump, and the air pump was removed. I had 2.5" exhaust with high flow cats, only 2 instead of the factory 4. Motor had 200K on the bottom end, and ran incredibly. I took it to emissions and it fast passed with extremely low emissions. Most were 0's. I probably have the sheet in the car still....
