running in autocross = no warranty?

uhh, i was looking at mazdamotorsports.com and i wanted to sign up, to maybe order some wiring diagrams, but it said i needed to have raced in something, two times, and with proof, before i can become a "team member" or something...so i was like okay, i wanted to autocross this baby once or twice anyways, just for the hell of it...so im readin the fine print and...

All suggested modifications and recommendations are intended solely for use on vehicles participating in off-highway competition events. Purchaser acknowledges that all Mazda vehicle warranties are voided if the vehicle is used in any Competition events. The purchaser accepts all responsibility for modifications to said vehicle(s) and all potential risks.

what the **** is this bulls***? if i run in an autocross event or two, sign up and order something, my warranty is gone?

Don't fall for that crap for a minute. Your car is protected by warranty regardless of conditions.

EVERY car manufacturer puts that in and there's lawsuits every year because of it. The lawsuits always say the same thing. How can you advertise a car being faster than an Integra Type R on an autocross course if you never meant the car to be raced?

You're safe. Don't sweat it.

im not falling for it, thats why i called it bulls***. im just amazed they even put that crap in there. what the ****, how are you supposed to ever use your car, if all you can do with it is get from A to B. whats the point of making the mazdaspeed protege if you cant do anything with it? lol

I had a dealer deny warranty work because one of the techs autoX'd in an event I was at. (I will beat his ass if I ever see him again) I just went to a differtent dealer, and it wasn't a problem. Just don't mention you do it and it shouldn't be an issue.

I think everythings cool. I spoke directly to the Mazdaspeed Motorsport guy on this very issue. I am going to ax and solo 1 the car, possibly. What he said was they are affiliated with Mazda, they do not take your serial number or notify the dealer whatsoever. Another comment was "if your car looks like it has been racing and you bring it to the dealer........ So if it is stickered out, race seat, belts etc, I can understand the warranty denials. It is for this reason I am only doing solo events. Solo 1 requires safety equipment and such, so that may not happen.

I bought the car for it's commendable warranty, value and performance. They just have to be prepared for those who are going to really trash the car.

My background is in BMW and Mercedes road racing cars (www.delsingmotorsport.com). I love the MSP. What I am researching is a way to go slightly lower, possibly 25% increase in spring rate (stock style springs) and dial in some neg camber and increase caster. I have a post out to find out the stock spring rates. These minor things are going to transform the handling without dedicating the car for the track.
