Rota Grids

I agree with P2K. I wish I would have done this from the beginning. Instead I got the Konig Counter Steers (TE-37 knock offs) because I was so impatient to get new wheels. Save for some baller wheels.

There is no way I'd spend that much money on a set of wheels for a daily driven car like a speed 3. I've had my rota svn's since last july and they are still in perfect shape. No other person I know or even seen has the color that I have on mine, so that makes it a lot more unique for me. You don't have to spend 4 grand on a set of wheels to be unique. You just gotta think outside the box and not be afraid to push the limits. That's all it boils down to. I could care less if someone thinks I'm a cheap ass because I chose to go with Rota's over a set of Volk or BBS. It's the "in thing" to do by purchasing the most expensive rarest wheels you can find. I'd never do it on this car. Now when I step up to my bmw e92 M3, that's a different story. But we are also talking about a car that is worth about 60 grand more than my speed 3.

If you wanna be unique, you can always look into powdercoating the wheels you have or a cheaper wheel a different color. I decided to go the less extreme route and went with magnesium blue copy. I get compliments daily, and I break necks every time I pass someone. I don't have people walk up to me and go, "those are sweet what wheels are those!?" "They are rota's." "Oh, nevermind, **** you!"

It's all personal preference, but like I said, I can't justify spending 4 grand on a set of wheels for a daily driver that's worth $15k. That's just my 2 coppers in the piggy bank.

Baller wheels are nice until you have to fork out the cash to replace one..hahahaha! So be prepared in case you screw one up!

That's a mute point. If you can afford the wheels, you can afford to replace one. That's how I see it, but it's all a matter of opinion.

I say this because where I live..we get some nasty winter weather and the roads are not always maintained the way they should be..when I first got my speed I bent one of the stock wheels..so that right there made me think about how much money I was willing to invest in something that could be ruined in a matter of 2 seconds. Not hating on you guys that have nice wheels at all, and yes everyone has there own opinion to what is a practical choice..but it is something worthy to think about!

True, true. I does matter where you live and the road conditions. Now that you've got me thinking, I don't know if I would've made the same choice if I lived up north where there are harsh winters and really bad roads.

After all, I do live in TX where there's little to no winters and the roads are fairly decent.

Yeah your lucky...I would do some advans or volks if I didn't have to worry about potholes..:( BTW: I have your car on my computer so I can just admire one of my favorite set of wheels. :)

Thanks man. I'm glad there are people who like what I've done, but I'm not finished and have other mods to do. I actually have to thank daonly1around for the fitment I chose. His fitment helped me make my decision. So thanks daonly1around.

Quality wheels or stock wheels.

The one time I rocked replica wheels I use to say 'yea well if they break they are cheap to replace'. What was I thinking? I NEVER want a wheel to break outside of a crazy accident; Rota wheels practically explode when they touch a curb or a nasty pot hole. I would much rather have a set of wheels that will maintain some structural integrity in the event of an accident, I'm not expecting them to be road worthy but I do not want to see the hub and the outer rim completely separated.

Be cheap with parts that aren't between you and the road, IMO you should always have quality wheels, tires, suspension, and brakes. Go ahead and run some cheap body kit or ridiculous sound system at least when they break your life won't be put to risk.

All wheels can and will break when you hit a curb or nasty ass pothole going at high speeds, so I don't think that is such a good argument honestly. I've seen plenty of volks, bbs' and other wheels that have been destroyed, much like rota's have. No wheel is indestructible, plain and simple. You hit a curb going 30 mph, you best believe whatever wheel you are running will bend, crack, or break. This isn't a feature reserved only for Rota Wheels.

BTW, Dark and P2k both, I've compliment both of your cars before and told you how gorgeous I thought your cars/wheels were, so don't take what I say as me being a prick, it has nothing to do with that. But I have my own beliefs in terms of this topic, that 'tis all.

Now, thread high jacking is complete. You can now resume to helping speed3driver pick his new set of wheels. I'd DIE to see a set of the 18x9.5" rota grids in white on cosmic blue. omg

I never thought you were coming off that way, and know you've complimented me before and I thank you again. I just thought you meant it was pointless to spend a grip on wheels. No offense was taken, and I hope you feel the same way. We just have different opinions, that's all. I agree that we did take this discussion WAY off topic. So speed3driver, I hope you're happy with whatever wheels you choose. Good luck.

On a side note MM BOOST, here's a pic I found of an Advan RZ that was destroyed by a curb. You're right, NO wheel is indestructible. I'm probably gonna have nightmares after seeing this pic.

Exactly man, I have thick skin...I played football for 17 years including 5 years of college ball. To make it through the criticism and scrutiny that I faced in college, I don't get offended easily! I just wanted to make sure we are on the same page.

And yes, that is exactly my point. You show me a picture of a rota like that, and while it sucks, it don't make me want to go into hiding and not drive my car. If I bust a rota, I can get a cheap replacement for not much dough. I don't sweat it. If I didn't daily my car, then maybe I could justify getting something a little more expensive. I think if I had my way, I'd have some aggressive hyperblack Work Meisters. (yippy)

I do agree that any wheel can suffer significant damage given the same circumstances BUT it will take more force to destroy a set made with better a casting (gravity vs forged for example) and the extent of the damage is also going to be different. The damaged rota wheels that surface are almost always a hub that is 100% separated from the outer rim where as with the Advan that P2K posted the wheel is certainly destroyed but still maintains a fair amount of structural integrity.
There is no debate over the strength of a casting process, a gravity cast is always going to be weak/brittle compared to forged, stronger wheels are almost always going to be more expensive.

No offense taken. I just feel compelled to make a point since I was, at one time, sporting replica wheels with the same mindset.
