roof rails(need weatherstripping for channels)

great instructions....looks good....but what about the filler pieces? did you get those yet? what are the part numbers? and how do they install in the channel?

The Canadian pieces press into fit using friction and spring clips to hold it in place.

The pieces are 120 Canadian to me, plus shipping to your door. I'll ship my parts to you if you ship your parts to me..

Sir Nuke...

The part #'s that the guy at the dealer said I needed are posted on one of my replies on the first page of this thread. This dude had some sloppy handwriting on the reciept, so the #'s I posted are my deciphering of what he wrote. I could be wrong. But, the parts I ordered are suppose to be in Thursday.

That what I can make out.

Also, I asked him before I left what the computer called this piece but I done forgot. It had something to do with " protector." Or at least that was part of the name.

From the picture they show on their computer screen, these pieces look like what bob.loblaw mentioned above...almost like they don't screw in, but have some sort of clips on each end to hold them in place. I guess I will find out, but as soon as I do, I'll take pics and show you.

I'm still nervous that the dealer screwed up and ordered me the wrong parts, but that's just me being worried. Two days left, and I'll find out for myself.

The ones from the land of Eh? use friction, and don't use the screw holes. For me to use your rails, I have to uplug 6 holes, which coincidentally, are the 6 holes you have to plug up when you use our channel mouldings.

I'd just put bolts and nuts in, use sealant to weatherproof it, and then put butyl tape on top of it to doubly weather-protect it.

Oh, and I put racks on a non-racked Caravan once before and this is similar.

Ciao

I remember that...and had a brain fart and forgot you hadn't gotten the parts yet...how about VERIFING the part numbers you put on your post when you get the real ones in your hands and letting us know...k?

Roof Rail Update

Just in case anyone was interested, I just called mazdastuff.com, and they quoted me a price of 59.95 for each part (USD). Comes out to about 120 total for both.

The part numbers seem to be correct.

I have a question for any canadians that have installed a US roof rack, ... what were your holes sealed with from the factory?

Seems to me IF the dealer new as much about the cars as we do you wouldn't have much of a problem....

get the weatherstrip for a CANADIAN P-5....if you remember....THEY don't come with roof racks...thus the stripping wouldn't have the holes in it in the first place....simply replace yours...with that from the great white north!

Actually the stripping does come with holes in it. But the holes are filled by a plastic plug that you drop in the hole and then slide it back to lock it into place. each plug is about 4cm long and 1cm wide. I will try to make time to get some detailed pictures of the holes and the plugs.

The wife had the digital cam at a family reunion this weekend, but I will take a picture and post it today. I will also track down the part # also.

Are those plugs that go under the rail

Do those go underneath the rail? Or do those pieces make up the rail itself?

Due to the fact that it is a long weekend here I can't get a hold of anyone at a dealership for the part # but I will tomorrow. As far as the part itself, I will take more pictures today to explain it better, I don't know what kind of holes or slots are left after you guys in the US take off your racks, but this piece just drops into the holes on the rail ( 2 per side ) and then you just slide them to lock them into place.

Anybody wanna trade their roof rack?

If anybody wants to trade for my Canadian rails.... please let me know.

If I wasn't suppose to post in this thread, I apologize. I figured anybody interested in this thread might be interested in the offer.
Thanks

Are there any Canadians that have removed their roof rails?

Has anyone ever found out what Canadians have filling their roof holes? Are there any Canadians that have done the US Roof Rack swap?
