Road Noise??

I've begun to notice what sounds like wind noise at the top of the windscreen also @65+ mph. Sounds like light rain hitting the glass. Also have lately noticed buzzing sound eminating from lower dash where it meets driver door on rough road surfaces. Very annoying. Any one else having this?
except on bad pavement I find it to be really quiet. In fact it is so quiet that any rattles are really noticeable and by rattles I mostly mean things that I've got in the seat or in the back that are making a bit of noise.
I really bad crosswinds I do notice more wind noise but the handling in them is still quite good compared to how my little old Tacoma would do.

While it's not as quiet at high speed as my Volvo S80, I wouldn't expect it to be. I'm more sensitive than average to sound, rattles, low frequency rumbles, etc. Sounds like that annoy me easily.The first time I test drove a CX-5 I was shocked at how quiet it was. And it wasn't just that it had a surprising low sound level for a car in this class, it was that the quality of the sound it did have was not of an unpleasant nature.
After 3800 miles, not one rattle, squeak or rumble has developed. Of course it took nearly 10,000 miles for the first noise to develop on my Volvo (the moon roof slider has a slight rubbing sound when hitting bumps).
I don't care about "zoom zoom" phoney-baloney advertising hype, I don't need to remember this crap.
I do have the ability and experience with dozens of vehicles owned to differentiate between varying levels of engine refinement. The latest CX-5, CRV, Escape, Sportage, Rogue, engines all have the characteristics of cost-effective inline 4's in terms of NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) and all are about as refined as you will find with this engine configuration. CX-5 is slightly above average in terms of NVH in this class of compact SUV.
After 11000 miles, I occassionally hear a rattle from dash in very cold weather, but it subsides upon warmup. CX-5 is solid.

Yes, a in-line 4 will be louder and slightly harsher typically (and in case of CX-5) than the newer 60 degree V6s today. I do the comparison frequently, since I have 2 V6's in household. It's not that big of a deal, and the gas mileage benefits of the 2.0L Skyactiv will be very significant compared to the Escape V6
It's not the cruising sound that's the issue, it's when running or accelerating into upper revs (4000-6000 rpm range) that you will notice the difference, as mentioned above by Mike M.

I just looked up the Edmunds review for my 07 Escape:
Once a standout for its impressive road manners, the Ford Escape's updated competition now has it feeling rather ordinary. True, it's sure-footed when going around corners, and its steering is reasonably responsive. Ride quality is a bit less impressive, though, as the Escape has a busy feel on expressway pavement, and considerable wind and road noise finds its way into the cabin. Ford's 3.0-liter V6 continues to offer respectable acceleration, but the four-speed automatic transmission sometimes leaves it flat-footed during passing attempts.
Maybe that's why I'm so worried - I've been dealing with a car that is apparently known for the noise so I'm afraid of getting another with the same issue. I cannot even used my bluetooth phone on the highway because I have to yell over the noise for people to hear me. I assume the CX-5 is going to be a huge upgrade considering what I'm coming from, yeah?

Yes, worrying excessively about the noise. I am picky and compare a Lexus sedan and Mercedes sedan to my CX-5 GT (w/19's) frequently, no problem. The CX-5 bluetooth phone setup in the car works great with no yelling at all speeds up to 80mph.

I am test driving this weekend but plan to make the purchase at the same time since the dealership is an hour away.
When i was test driving i was comparing to my present car a 171bhp xtrail, 2009.
Not a upmarket model, as that wouldn't make any sense. To put things in perspective I've wrote down the noise test readings from whatcar mag.
The CX 5 was actually the quietest in the test at 30mph, but not at 70mph. At 70mph the VW was quietest, leaving CX5 next to last.
Honda CR-V 2.2 30mph=63.3 db 70mph=69.8 db
kia sportage 2.0 30mph=64.8 db 70mph=71.0 db
Mazda CX5 2.2 30mph=62.7 db 70mph=70.6 db
VW tiguan 2.0 30mph=63.7 db 70mph=69.2 db
