I test drove the focus SVT, civic Si, celica GT-S, Nissan SE-R spec V, and some others. The only car that handled better than the protege ES (not turbo, not 5, not mp3) was the civic.

the civic had a much better engine, and the svt handled really well (but the engine, trans were crappy)

I got the protege for $6-7k less though...

i like the civic but low end blew.... MSP just fun all around and for getting the rebate it was only like 15 grand new ...

that test was kind of wack. the drivers must be horrible, and how a celica got 1st, well thats beyond me.

ignore magazine numbers, spec-v owners know what its like to be the underdog, and i dont think anyone cares anymore. if you are satisfied with your car, nothing else matters.

If only more people realized or thought like that....

ACR's kicked major ass....our SM class leaders drive turbo ACRs


and despite a great lateral grip figure, im interested to see how it handles transitions and slaloms, as well as amount of controllable oversteer, etc. not just looking for numbers here. thanks though, i dont remember seeing figures in that article.

[Celica weighs only 2500 pounds and it handles very good. I have seen them in auto x and they do very well. True the powerband is not very good but its a fun car to drive.

While the Celica GT is a competitive auto-xer in GS with the non-vvti 140hp engine, the Celicag GTS is NOT competitive in DS.

YELLOW03SPV - I agree the DC2 Type-R is still the best handling front wheel drive car...
