RIP Big Blue.. She Saved My Life

I have a bit of bad news to break.. I was involved in a bad accident this afternoon with my 6.

I was heading home from work and there was some bad sun glare over the hill, the light appeared to be green to me, I caught a glimpse of a dodge caravan for a split second and my airbags went off. My car started filling with smoke so I got out of it and ran to the side of the road also to check if the woman I hit in the caravan was ok. She spun and hit a ford taurus wagon in the process. I probably totaled the minivan as I broke the rear axle and messed up her tailgate.. the taurus needs a new rear quarter.

As for my 6, she's in pretty rough shape.. the front bumper and airdam are in pieces, my headlights are pulverized, I need a new hood, my windshield shattered and I'm sure all the suspension work I just had done is moot now.

I just keep picturing the policeman sweeping pieces of blue fiberglass off the road and it kills me. I'm really hung up about it.

On the plus side of things, I'm alive, and nobody got hurt in the accident.. I messed up my left wrist a little bit and it is badly sprained, but not broken like I thought it was earlier. Honestly, my 6 saved my life. No whiplash, I didn't hit the airbag at all, and I never moved out of my seat. I was firmly in place the entire time. I owe my life to big blue.

If there is a doubt in anybody's mind about buying a 6, let this be a testimonial.

To repeat the cliche: Cars can be replaced but not people.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but glad to hear no one was hurt badly.

That sucks dude.

I guess there is a reason why Consumer Reports rates the 6 the safest family sedan for sale in North America.

damn sean that really blows i know how much you liked the 6.....juat blows...atleast your safe though that is the important part....but just damn...everyone seems to be getting into accidents lately which just blows.....im sorry for your misfortune hope everything works out

As bad as this sounds its good to hear posts like this.

That means the car did its job and your alive..
I'd rather hear from the person in the wreck than someone else.

So A+ on the car holding up and goodluck with your next build/car.

here's a bit of an update. I haven't gotten it appraised yet and I have a rental car. It's an Xterra, but meh, whatever.. it gets me around. I drove by it yesterday morning and the windshield was taken off and there is a cover over the car except for the front end. They removed the side panels and my side skirts, my hood and what was left of my headlight assembly. The motor mounts must have snapped because the engine is practically on the ground. I'll take pictures once geico pays off the towing company and I'm allowed to properly hold a memorial service for my wounded lady.

damn, sorry to hear. is the car totalled then? it must have been a hard hit for the motor mounts to give up.

Yo man, we need to have a party soon and celebrate the short life of big blue (that is if it's totalled which it sounds like). (cheers)

I'm soo sorry man :( . As bad as it sounds, I hope the car is a complete loss, normally a car involved in a accident as bad as this one, all fixed up, it still aint the same. Be Sure the light is green next time, I usually stop at the line when I get glare that bad.

Crap, Sean. Glad you and everyone involved are ok. Sorry about the car, but that can always be replaced. Wow, you can sigh now...

to my suprise they are not totalling it out.. They are actually fixing it. Apparently the frame is ok (much to my suprise) and the motor mounts breaking was just a freak occurance. Once again, this 6 must have the original frame of doom, as it's been through a war and made it out pretty much unscathed. My adjuster wanted to total it out because of the airbags (apparently it is hard to certify airbag work as there are a lot of sensors) deploying, but geico didn't want to take the hit on the payout as it technically was repairable. With that said, get me the hell out of this xterra I'm driving now and BACK in BLUE :)

well seasn im glad yourl have your baby blue back with time an good luck with insurance comapanies and everything...i hope you get her soon and come back to visit us ;)

Glad to hear you get away unscathed. Hope you get your car back soon. Like I always say "Mazda's are Magnets". Everyone's bound to get into a wreck or fender bender in a Mazda at one point or another. So dont feel bad.

I'm taking pics tomorrow when I go to sign the workorder at the bodyshop.. stay tuned.. (BTW: total damage came out to a little over 6,000.. I got lucky!!!)

OMFG! glad you are ok..I'm really considering seling the 6 or at least trade in for a color that is not as unlucky as Lapis! as for quality of the car...I had my car hit so hard it bent 2 rims and still had alignment! You keeping the same motor and tranny or is that getting replaced too? did they include the side sill as well if you didn't already get that fixed?
