Does anyone have Rhino ramps for their mazda5? Do they work good without having to drive on a 2x6? Thanks.

I use two 2x4's, works well.

I'll stick with my method, gets the Mazda5 high enough into the air to have plenty of room.

Just to all who would want to get these the Rhino 8000 are on sale at advanced for 32.99 and you can use an online coupon a123 for an additional $10 off. 22.99 for these ramps is a great price. If you don't believe me look them up at Amazon.com; Confirmed they do work with the Mazda5.

Everything is cheap in the United States. :( You can't even get regular ramps for that cheap.

Here's a pic of my stock (wheel/tire36psi/suspension) Mz5 going on Rhino ramps for future reference. More than enough clearance. Folks who are lowered will rub a little.

Please do yourself a favor and use jack stands with those ramps. I have plastic ones just like yours, and I just don't trust them. I don't trust metal ones either. I hear about people killing themselves under cars all the time though, so maybe I'm just paranoid. I see this old man all the time when I'm driving to work and he drives his riding mower down a small embankment onto boards supported by cinder blocks. I'm assuming he then gets under it. I hate to see stuff like that because it's how people get killed. I used to say it's "thinning the herd" and more power to you to do dumb stuff like that, but it's the family that suffers. Sorry, I digress.

I understand your concerns but have you tried using Rhino ramps yourself? I am sure there are different brands with different quality/rating, but Rhino ramps are rated for 8000 and 12000 lbs. From my non scientific eye and feel, I trust the sturdiness of the build. You will find nothing but positive reviews of these ramps –and they don’t rust so you can leave them outside (not that I would). Now, where’s that image of a guy working under his truck held up using a 2x4 as a leg...

EDIT: I have the 12K lbs version.

my protege rubs the rhino ramps a little bit - i have to shove them under the bumper to get it up on them. the mazda5 drives right up with no clearance issues.

I've used them all if they were made in the last 25 years. I understand their ratings. It's like one of my civil engineers designing a foundation for a 300,000 lb gas compressor that sits in the middle of a station I'm designing. We tell the contractor what to do in our drawing package and they make a mistake. The foundation cracks or settles and costs my client a fortune to pick the unit up and replace the foundation. Never trust ratings if your life depends on it. That's coming from an engineer who provides ratings with his products for situations where people can die. The pipe in my station can be defective and kill people. It's not my fault, but someone died. Defects, terrible engineering, and bad quality control can happen to any product at any time. What are you going to do if the ramps fail and you mistakenly trusted them? You'll probably die.

I'm not saying this to lecture or talk to people like they're stupid children. I'm just seriously concerned for people's safety who trust ramps. I use jack stands with Cotter pins to hold the stop bars in. I don't trust jacks with the levers that fold down to hold the jack column either.

I agree with you like I have never agreed with anybody else. I always jack up my car and use jack stands. Then also put edging bricks under tires and wood blocks behind the other tires in case the Park or E-brake fails. I was once buying stuff at Advance Auto and there was a black guy who jacked up a heavy Buick with one of those front lifting jacks and was working under it. I told him it's unsafe and he blew me off and told me" "You gonna give me money to take it to a mechanic." His front of the car was so high it looked like it was staring out on a drag strip. It was really scary. What can I say, so people are not afraid to die, just like when I see croch-rocket riders pass a highway curve @ 90mph when I come back from work. And no matter how much you tell those people they are wrong, they will still do it because they must think they are made out of steel. I work in the medical field and know that the human body is resilient to disease and outside harm but your insides are like pudding.

Well, to sum things up. Somethimes it's worth it to go to your "crappy" Mazda dealer and get a $30 Oil Change or a $20 tire rotation. That is 3-4 oil changes per year, and maybe 2-3 tire rotations. 4x30 = 120 and 3x20 = 60. That is $180 per year. At least I am still alive.

These things are plastic. I don't know about that. Not with a 3500lbs car. Screw that.

Well, theoretically I'm sure they're strong enough. My question is what happens if that plastic deforms even in the slightest manor or had even the slightest deformation caused during manufacturing? Failure. You would hope that they test them at the factory, but I'm sure they're made in China. Chinese companies have such little regard for the end user that they put a toxic chemical into baby formula to raise the apparent protein levels. Remember the Melamine debacle? They don't give a f***. Regardless, defects occur even in countries with responsible, moral vendors producing our products.

I have been using the Rhino Ramps for my Mazda5, Miata, Volvo S60R, Fusion, Liberty, etc...
