Review: Exedy Stage 1 clutch and Fidanza 7lb Flywheel

its a 3 puck, so engagement is a lil tricky

im in the same boat, i keep hearing great things about exedy but they their stage one wont fit my future needs

<< plans to be at 14psi built and tuned

hows that chattering noise effect thats characteristic of lighter FW, does it bother you on local traffic(stop and go) ?

Honestly, I get none of that. I can pick out maybe a hint of it when I'm reversing, but it could just be the normal engine vibration at lower rpms (all my mounts have solid inserts). When it comes to city driving, clutch engagement is as smooth as I could ask for.

is the pedal supposed to exert more force with a lightened flywheel? cause i just put a exedy stage 1 and kept the stock flywheel and it feels super soft still.

i think that clutch is only good to 240/240 or so. i think at 300whp youre starting to look at 6 pucks.

I'll just say this: There are / were people running GT30's w/ that clutch, and it was fine. However, it'd probably be a better strategy to be safe rather than sorry. Get something pucked, but keep it reasonable (friction surface too). I had a Spec Stage 3+....it was stupid, and annoying, and pointless for anyone under like 400hp. Find the grey area.

Also, all you guys planning on running 15psi and more, better start looking at building your trannys at least a little bit. Whether it's cryo, GTX, or PAR....do something.

This is true, the tranny will only hold to around 275WHP after that your one your own.

good write up BTW I've had a fidanza wheel sitting around for about 2 years now and not its time for me to pick up a clutch as the car has significant chatter and will slip through the upper RPM's in first gear so I'll probably take a look into exedy more closely as before I was thinking about ACT

The flywheel wouldn't affect how stiff the clutch feels. And for what it's worth, the stage 1 clutch actually feels a hair lighter than the stock clutch to me. Go figure...

it does, but its a nice soft smooth engagement. wich is ideal for a dd. why anyone would want a stiff clutch idk.

did you cryo treat your trany the last time you worked on it or not ?

I keep hearing mixed results on cryo treating tranny, I got to do something on it this summer before I install bigger turbo.

ok i thought i did something wrong then ha

Nope, no cryo. It's used often by racing teams, pro and amateur. I think for the price, it's well worth it. What turbo you going to ? I'm still considering a t3/t4 set-up, low boost though.

its not terribly expensive, i think they can do all the gears for like 110 or something. im considering getting mine done when i drop the trans just to be done with it.

what the heck. i thought it would be more than that. i would of done it then when i dropped my tranny.

yeah its priced by the pound and material. again, not something that needs to be terribly expensive. dip it in a tub of liquid nitrogen, allow to chill, ta-dah.
