If you are wondering why we were offline, it's because EV1Servers.NET has a policy whereby they call you back to confirm a server, but if they can't reach you in so many days, they put your server on hold.
  • Doesn't matter that my billing information is exactly the same as it was for the first server, and that the server was ordered from my account which only I have access to
  • Doesn't matter that billing doesn't leave voice messages
  • Doesn't matter that billing said they send emails (I received grand total 0 emails asking me to do anything)
  • Doesn't matter that today is not a working day and I could very well be very unavailable
So yeah, it's a very reasonable policy. GRRR... I posted a rant in the forum in hope that they adapt this policy to be more friendly.

i had nothing to look at for hours upon hours so i went to play golf, then when i got home and it still wasnt up, i wasted another hour playing counter strike

Glad the server going offline allowed you guys to have a life if only for a half a day. ;)

how much bandwidth and space do you guys use? i would gladly host you for free on a relaible server.

The confirmation policy is, when the server is ordered, we *cough* ev1 *cough* sends an email to confirm, if it's not confirmed the first day, yet another email is sent. After that the server is unplugged for non-confirmation and you have 7 days to respond or they restore/resell the server. If you're in the US they try to call you the first day it's ordered too. Anyway, I'm one of the people that confirms orders.....all day...and I want to die...

Alot of the websales people are scurr'd to leave phone messages. Also, the emails "we" send are automated, sorta, so it's possible that you might have a spam blocker and it stops the confirm emails. Happens alot.

I need another job....(scratch)

Due to the database size, we at least need a dual xeon with 2GB ram. Disk space is roughly 10gigs including database, uploads and attachments We use 700gb per mnonth.

I can't imagine anything short of a dedicated server doing the job.

That kinda sucks that you had to go for the 2GB Ram system and only use 700GB monthly xfer. There might be other hosting companies that can offer you a better package.

Actually Rackshack is the best for this kind of setup, and for the price. Believe me enry some datacenters, especially in Europe really don't have support like Rackshack does. I have had to wait 5 hours to get one of my my servers rebooted. Rackshack usually takes them 15 minutes tops.

Next step is to take the big plunge and buy your own server!!!

Unlikely. I've looked around. The server also has a RAC, which I really want, so I can diagnose and fix almost everything myself.

Really? I get people bitching about prices all the time. (dunno)

Well I wasn't about to switch anytime soon. I was more than anything pissed off at their RETARDED policy details. I mean it probably works 99% of the time but I can see it failing for very reasonable reasons.

And the hilarious catch is this. I place the order and put my billing info, right? So then they call you back to confirm. In my case they could not reach me. So then I logged into chat and gave back that same info, then my account was confirmed. Bear in mind they never actually spoke to me (voice).

Which means I could enter a stolen card, bill gate's home address, give a phone that I know for a fact will not be answered by anyone, then log into the admin and start chat session from there, then give them back the same bulls*** info and get my account validated. I fail to see how this provides any fraud prevention.

yeah. but to some people, the internet should be 100% free.. including all the millions of $$ of hardware that this stuff resides on.

I know what you mean people pay 300$/mo and expect to get the same service as if they had a dedicated support staff just for them. I am realistic when it comes to their response times and qualifications of 1st line support, that's why I pay for the RAC, so I only need to bug them for critical stuff (hard disk failed, bad memory, server exploded into a smouldering pile of rubble, etc...)
