Reseting the ECm from 100k to 0 !

When you do a motor Swap an pull out the old motor and install a new one. How do you reset the Ecu to tell the Dash board that there is Zero miles on the odometer?(blackp5)

I'm not going to say it's impossible (because as soon as I say that, someone will tell you how to do it lol), but if it was possible people would be doing that left and right to spoof the milage on their cars.

Hmmm so i guess you have to Reset The ECU with a special tool that tells the motor that it now has Zero miles on it. The question is how do you do it and with what kind of tool?

It is illegal ........ Even with a new motor the body still has that many miles. Living in NY you will probally get in trouble the next time you go to have it inspected since your VIN will show the actual milage.

I don't think it is illegal if you legally have a new motor installed into a vehicle and your old odometer says you have 190,000 miles on the car i think you have the right to get a new odometer with the Correct Mileage there is nothing wrong with that because the old Motor is gone and your old milage doesn't apply to your new Motor at all!

The correct way to document the milage on a new motor is just to record the milage when the motor was installed. Laws are going to vary state by state, but federal law says it's a felony to knowingly misrepresent the milage on a car particularly during a sale.

also mileage is stored in cluster not ecm

Mileage goes with the chassis, not the engine...

Its stored within the cluster. You can reprogram it, but I'm certainly not about to tell you how over a public forum. Nor am I over a PM so please dont send me any. Not to be rude, but yes it is possible.

Thanks Maxx Mazda i appreciate your thoughts on that. Worse case scenario some one could always hook up an additional Ode meter and mount it in the Dash some where.
