Replacing stock air filter...

I'm replacing the stock air filter in my '88 RX7 non-turbo.

I am replacing it with one of

these.

What is involved in installing it? I can get the stock one removed {sort of}, but there are a couple things stopping me...

What is that big metal thing right under the filter? Its attatched right to the air filter box, and it appears to be just like a 90 degree elbow.

As well, I see that there is something plugged into that metal box. I imagine it is some sort of air flow meter.

The place I bought it from stated: "Includes a washable and reusable air filter and a mass air flow meter adapter". i THINK thats all I need to install it...

I suppose of jsut sort of blabbering on now. Basically im looking for any information anybody can give me about installing this thing :P

Should be pretty straight forward, but since I have no idea what the engine bay of an '88 RX7 looks like then I can't really give details.
Filters are just basically "plug and play"

The 2nd Gen RX-7 uses the same MAF/Filter setup as the 1st Gen Proteges. The MAF is built into the airbox. I haven't actually done this mod, but from my understanding the adaptor attaches to the end of the MAF assembly (the thing with the sensor on it) and then the filter goes on the adaptor. You might be able to find a quick answer by posting this in the 1st Gen Protege section.

Xelderx is correct.

Your adapter piece will mount directly to the air sensor itself. I would suggest leaving the plastic scoop/duct thing for more air.

Do you have an air sensor adapter already? I've got an extra HKS one from my FC i'd sell if you were interested.
