I have searched for hours and am having trouble. I want to install a remote start in my car. The trick is I do not want to replace my stock alarm. Is there anyone that knows which remote start to buy and how to install it being that it is standard. I did find the neutral trigger wire diagram but do not understand what this means. Please help.(uhm) (uhm)

I was always told you'd have to have an automatic cause of having the clutch in to crank the car.......maybe they have new stuff now?

t3ase has the Clifford RSX 3.5 on his MSP...it has remote start. a friend of mine had a 6 speed celica gts w/ remote start, and i tripped out when he started it...so yes it's possible. but i don't know who makes just remote starts

Compustar, its the best remote start alarm imo, and its got a turbo timer.

check 1st's sticky for remote start wires.

just dont park in gear otherwise your car may not be where you left it.
Well, thats the beauty of compustar. if hooked up with the neutral saftey wire, then the car will not start when in gear. This has to be dioded with the brake wire.

It works badass, and its such a cool show off thing. :)

the only way my car may roll off is if the hand brake is left down. :p

I find it quite funny when people mention that a certain system has a turbo timer. Every single remote starter that exists has a "turbo timer". Note the quotations. Manufacturers have only began writing "turbo timer" because it attracts buyers. This is a feature that comes with all starters. Up here in Canada because of the cold most cars have starters of all kinds. Any starter once the car is on and the key is in the ignition if you press the button that starts the car on the remote and take out the key the car will remain on (for 10, 20, 30 min) for whatever time you have programmed it. My starter has this feature and when I bought it, it didn't say turbo timer. Just thought I'd let those people know who think its a special thing.

The only downfall that you will have by keeping your stock alarm is that you will have two remotes, one to start the car and the other to unlock it. My advice would be to get a whole new system that has alarm and starter. The stock alarm is not anything special either. However if you still want to keep the stock and don't mind two remotes here are companies that make only starters. (Don't know if you have them in USA also)

ProStart
Bulldog
Viper
Orbit (uses blue tooth tech.)
Compustar
Autostart

they're many others but this is what is popular except for compustar too expensive for just a starter.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I am going to have to change out the alarm system....bummer. I don't want two remotes.

The stock alarm is a piece of s*** now that I've been able to compare it to an aftermarket one. Not to menton the various problems I had encountered with the stocker. This RSX has yet to cause any problems. Just be sure to hook up a neutral safety.

Turbo Timers should not be on for 10-30 minutes...more like 30 sec-1 minute; so maybe there is another feature.

The compustar turbo timer option will run the car for 2 minutes, nothing longer, nothing shorter.

Clifford allows selectable times; 1, 3, 5 minutes, I believe. The one minute is perfect for our car.

The owners manual I believe states 30 seconds.....and it's silly anyway. Our turbos are cooled plus it's only after long up hill under boost or constant long held boost. I just sit in the car for a bit.

Compustar is the one that does manuals. They are also one of the best car starters out there.

I just checked prices, looks like a NOT bad price for the Clifford. I still like the Compustar. Can't beat the 1/4 mile range and the fob tells you when something is happening to your car, when in range ofcourse. They have another model thats suppose to have a 1 mile range, but i have heard mixed reports on that.

Compustar has the SS and FM model. SS has a 6000ft (approx 1.2mi) range and the FM has about half that. This is what they claim in reality the SS will work from as far back as 3000ft not more. But 3000ft is not bad thats about 0.6mi. No matter what it still has the farthest range out of all systems. Always keep in mind you get what you pay for.
