Remote issues

The remote for our 2002.5 P5 stopped working a while ago. I thought it was just the battery, but simply replacing the battery didn't resolve anything. I then brought it to the dealership since I wanted to fix it before selling the car to my sister. They fixed it, but according to my sister, it didn't last long. Now the car is ours again and I'd like to get it fixed. Is there some kind of untimate fix to this or is this a known issue/problem?
Thanks gang,

Yep try reprogamming it. For some odd reason mine just dies and I have to reprogram it about twice a year.

No comments/experiences w/this? Everybody's remote's work just fine??
Thanks gang,

No help?!
Surely SOMEBODY has to have some experience here??
(confused)

Are you doing the proper procedure for reprograming? Try it again and again, it sometimes takes a few times for it to work.
1) Get in and close all the doors
2) Open the drivers side door
3) Put key in the ignition and turn to "On" (not just Acc) and then back to off 3 times.
4) Remove the key
5) push the door button on the inside of the door sill on the car three times (it's on the body not the door itself.
6) the doors should then lock and and then unlock
7) once the doors have locked unlock push any botton on the remote twice doors should lock and unlock with the buttons then do the same for the other remote if you have one.

If that doesn't work I would take a real close look at all the fuses and relays in the system, under the dash and in the engine bay.

Does the doors auto lock when you put the key in the door and turn it and hold? in the drivers door all doors should lock unlock that way to let you know the relays are working.

What does it mean if nothing happens when I do the "turn key 3 times, press driver's side door switch 3 times" step? I've repeated this about 20 times (waiting 40 seconds in between), and nothing.

I cannot lock my doors with either of my remotes, and they will only unlock on the second press of the button. All of the lights flash like they are supposed to, and I've already tried replacing the keyless entry module once for this (it worked fine for about 6 months afterwards).

I tried it a bunch of times, but I'm willing to try it again. You're referring to the 'lock/unlock' button on the inside of the door and NOT the literal plastic shaft (over left shoulder) that moves up & down as said button is pressed, right?? If so, and you press it 3 times, it must go 'lock/unlock/lock' or 'unlock(even though it already is ulocked)/lock/unlock'. Yes, the relays must all be working b/c I can use the key, in the driver's (or passenger's door, I think) to unlock/lock all doors. With regard to following this procedure, everything works up until I press the remote's button, as nothing happens! :(

Thanks for the assistance,

My remote does absolutely nothing when pressing any of the buttons, including the panic/alarm.

sounds like maybe your key fob is bad - do you have a second one you can try?

I don't mean to threadjack (well, actually I did, but I apologize), but this issue is very frustrating for me as well, since apparently I can't even reprogram the keyless entry. Add to the fact that my remotes work "halfway", and I have two with the same problem. I've simply run out of possibilities.

You can get some new key fobs on ebay for cheap. When I bought I car it didn't come with fobs from the last owner. I got two for like $12 I think.

I only have one key fob, but perhaps will look to replace it.
Thanks guys,

Yeah, it's covered with a little rubber sleeve, and it's attached to the frame of the car, not the actual door.

Wooo-hooo!

Wooo-Hooo - I fixed it! I was pressing the incorrect switch. I went out and tried it again, via that little rubber switch on the body of the car (rather than either of the two unlock/lock switches) and on the 2nd go around, it worked! AWESOME - thanks, guys!! (spin)

Glad it worked out for you. For the rest of you, my question remains: what does it mean if after completing this process, nothing happens (i.e., door locks do nothing)?

Slavrenz, Do the doors autolock/unlock when you put the key in the drivers door and turn and hold it? All the locks should lock unlock when you do that. If it doesn't you might have a bad connection at the door switch. Try taking the door panel off and checking the connections, clean them, tighten them up and them see if it works. I "tightend" mine by using a needle nose pliers to squeaze the female connector a bit more. Other then that it sounds like you may have a bad relay or fuse somewhere. When your turning the key are you going all the way to "on" so the engine lights come on? Make sure your not going just to Acc. And then go back to Off.

Yes, all doors lock/unlock when I use the driver's door lock with my key. Also, I am turning the key all the way to "on" as I try to reprogram this.

This is exactly what is happening with mine:

1. When pressing "lock" on either one of my remotes, the lights flash properly, but none of the locks do anything. Pressing "lock" a second time will cause the horn to honk twice as it should as well, but the doors still do not lock.

2. When pressing "unlock" once, the driver's side door should unlock. However, this does not happen for me (although the lights still flash as they should). Pressing "unlock" a second time unlocks all of the doors properly.

3. The panic button works fine.

I replaced my keyless entry module with a salvage yard unit a few months ago, thinking that this could be the problem. I did the reprogramming then as well, and even then, I had to do the key cycling step about 10 times before it would work properly.

I'm at the end of my rope with this. I've checked all applicable fuses, and everything looks fine.
