Reliability risk?

I'm trying to decide between the mazda3 and the mazdaspeed 2003.5 and I need to know if this car is reliable because it will be my car for at least a 100,000 miles.
I see the thread with the LSD's going out pretty quickly. Is this on most cars? Are there any other problems? I like the Mazdaspeed better than the Mazda3 because of performance and the fact you can switch out the head unit but if it's not a very reliable car then I want no part of it.
*edit*
I also hear that the turbo's are weak.

haha... you must be hangin around the srtforums.
seriously though... I'm very happy with my msp. haven't had any real problems with mine, except minor inconveniences.

i think there are less than 10 LSD failures.. out of 4000+ made.

In general, turbo cars need a little more maintenance than non turbo, but its basic stuff like keeping good oil in it, making sure the plugs are ok, and premium gas.
Other than that, in stock form, the MSP is as reliable as you get.

I wouldn't mind having a Conquest or Spirit R/T as money pit car instead of my SHO, but there's an even smaller aftermarket on those two cars. I love my Mazdaspeed. In the long run it's probably going to be more expensive to maintain than the 3 (although that remains to be seen since it's the 3's first production year) since it's turbo and our cars differ so much. I think in all cases, however, with a reputable car manufacturer 99% of reliability comes down to 2 things, maintenance and driving style. Moral of the story, it's how you treat the car. LSD has come mainly from people dropping the clutch at 5000 rpms and not avoiding big bumps in the road etc...

Well so far i have had my head unit replaced, my turbo replaced, the E-bushings done (twice), the rotors polished, the coolant leak fixed and the windshield replaced because of the Chassis flex all within 14000 miles.Im looking into taking out the LSD and adding some welds just as a preventative measure, but other than that its an awesome car.
