Recommended cargo floor cover/mat? 2021 CX-9

:
21 CX9 GT, 19 CX5 Signature
Hi out there. Just picked up a 21 CX9 with captains chairs 2nd row. I'm looking to get a good quality cargo floor mat or cover, one that will cover the entire floor with the third row seats folded down flat.

I bought a Smartliner brand but am returning it. It's hard plastic and scratches easily and doesn't mold and fit very well. I'd look at anything, from a softer canvas type cover to a softer rubber style.

Any recommendations? Thanks.

I buy Weathertech mats for my vehicles and have always been very satisfied with the quality. They're not exactly the cheapest but you do get what you pay for.

If you want a more rubbery feel however, Weathertech may still not meet your needs. The texture is somewhere between soft and hard rubber (dare I say more on the hard side).

Amazon may still be a good bet, just look around. 👍

If you want a good fit, you can do better than Weathertech. 3D and Tuxmat make custom fit mats that are the most often recommended. 3D is the OEM mat maker for Mazda Canada.

Does it need to be "leakproof"? The OEM mat is what I have in my 2018. It's a soft rubber mat, mounted with velcro. It covers everything from the top of the seat to the liftgate with the 3rd row down, but it is a 2-piece mat to prevent it from pulling away from the seat back when the 3rd row is folded up, and it has holes in it for access to the 3rd row seat levers on the back of the seats. It also looks like newer OEM mats are available with sections that also provide coverage for the side cubbies.

For a leakproof solution, the 3D Maxpider cargo mat is slightly less flexible, but appears to be a one-piece unit. With the 3rd row up, the mat will fall away from the seat back unless you cut it at the seam. It also looks like if you wanted access to the levers on the seat backs, you'd have to cut those holes out yourself. According to reviews, the mat may also fit a little tightly and require trimming in one or two areas.

I went down the rabbit hole on this for my 2020 and ended up going with the OEM option about a year ago and have not regretted it at all. I can easily put either seat down and the anti-slip helps keep things in place along makes cleaning the trunk way faster than before. Like others have said it largely depends how you use the car. If you almost always have the rear seats down the WeatherTech option could be nice if you need to contain liquids.

But for me, the OEM option has worked great since I do need to use the 3rd row from time to time and very rarely carry liquids in the back.

I had posted some pictures of the OEM option in another thread a while back (linked below).

CX-9 Rear Cargo Liner Options?

This looks like the one I bought about three years ago for my 2020 Sig. It's a very plush carpet like material, CX9 logo and folds up or down as the rear seats are moved. High quality and after three years still looks like new. Can't beat the price.

If you're really carrying liquids though, you should put them in a plastic storage bin. A $10 bin is a lot less expensive than spilled paint.

I’m selling my Canvasback cargo liner and seat back protectors for $100.
