Recommended brake fluid?

I have been using Castrol LMA for many years now and recently found that the local Pep Boys no longer carriers them. So what brands or types or brake fluid do you use on your CX-9? Not looking for race rated or super costly types.

Thanks.

Hmmm.....I just checked the 4 local Auto Parts Suppliers in my area; Pep Boys, Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone, and NAPA, - and none of them list the Castrol. I wonder if it's discontinued?? You can order it online, but it will end up costing you about $12/qt with shipping.

Although I can't recommend this, I did see that you can get Valvoline Synthetic Brake Fluid for about $8 per quart. I went with the ATE 200 and ATE Blue. Yes, it cost me a little more ($13/Qt) but since I plan to do my own fluid changes, I liked the idea of being able to flush out the old 'Gold' fluid with the Blue stuff - very easy to see the new (blue) fluid flushing through the lines. Then I'll use the Gold stuff on the next change. And if you think about how often you'll change your engine oil versus the life you'll get out of 1 brake fluid change, is it really a big deal to spend $5 or even $10 more for something that will likely give you 2 years or more of service life? That's how I look at it anyway.

4wardmotion, it still shows up on Castrols website and like you said available online but it's quite spendy. I don't know why the local stores no longer carry them. I usually replace my brake fluid every 2 years.....3 if I'm lazy. I heard good things about Castrol LMA and it was a good price at that time so I used it. I'll probably just shop around the local stores and see what else I can get at a good price.

Have you tired Wally-World???...they may carry it. I'll check the next time I go there....but I try not to go there very often.

No, the local wally-world never carried it for as long as I've been using it. I've also checked O'Reileys, Autozone, Napa and of course Pep boys. Maybe I have to go to a specialized auto store to find it. Oh well, I'll just find another alternative since this is just a weekend/family car.
