Recirculated HKS SSQV/Injen sound clips

The exhaust is pretty damn loud. I didn't really think that the mic under the hood would pick up that much of the exhaust note. [/B]

ahhh... so i'm guessing the BOV/wastegate sounds are actually not that loud inside the cabin. or can you still hear it very clearly?

The turkey sound is caused by the wastegate, but is more apparent when recirculating your bov.

why do people keep saying this, the wastegate does not make that sound. if it did you would hear the turky while under full boost and not just when you let off the gas

They keep saying this because everyone gets the sound...even people with hardpipes. It's pretty obviously not the BOV or BPV you use. Some folks are saying it's because you're recirculating, but that's not it either...even people going to atmoshperic vent have heard the sound (although it's muted, since it doesn't reverb through everything.

Find another explanation that makes sense and we'll change our tune! :D

BTW...That's one angry turkey! hehe...mine doesn't sound nearly that pissed off. I'll have to tune it a bit more now that I have the flash.

Great vids. the sound is great

Thanks a lot, I'll post up some more when I get some even better clips.

With the hardpipes and injen, I would say the HKS is almost 1.5 times louder than the stock BPV running on the same setup. You can hear it quite clearly from the cabin and all around the car. Scaring unsuspecting fools with the crack-turkey is awesome.:D

i don't really understand how do u recirculate... can some1 explain plz

Instead of venting the air out of the BOV and into the atmosphere, you feed that air through a return line to the intake (after the maf and before the turbo).

Hey man sounds great. How do you have your blow off valve mounted? Any pictures? Sounds exactly like the Veilside Supra. Everyone watch the video below:

Now what do you have to say about turkeys? :)

Thanks for the clip, sounds awesome!!!

The valve is mounted like so:

I think I can still adjust mine a little better too. Does your DV produce a similar sound???

Yeah like servoeyes stated, so far that's the only thing that makes sense, considering all of the setups that have been run on this car and still produce the turkey. Even Dexter, who ran a HKS SSQV open-vent had the turkey. If I am wrong about it being the wastegate, so be it. I haven't heard any other logical explaination thus far, so that's what I say to someone who asks.

riddle me this...
why would the noise change when changing the bpv (or intake) if it were due to the wastegate?

Well as far as the changing the intake to an injen, (1) you are changing the materials. You go from the plastic, multi-bend stock intake(that is very good for muffling sound) and switch to a very thin aluminum intake that has very few bends. Because of this, there is also more air getting blown out of the filter, and the thin aluminum changes the note considerably.

I don't know if this would be any different, but an external wastegate does make sound. You can hear it at www.cybernationmotorsports.com on the RSX burnout video(if they still have it) you can tell that the wastegate does make sound.

But the one thing that Jernut said is that you should hear some sound at full boost, maybe an internal wastegate is different, but I'm just reaching for answers here.

i don't think anyone knows 100%, without a doubt, willing to bet their life on it, what's causing the sound. i've emailed robert at 935motorsports (they run www.blowoffvalves.com) and he suspects it's compressor surge, most likely due to the smallish diameter of the return tube on the injen, or perhaps even the inlet tube. but that doesn't explain the same sound that people get who are venting to atm with the actual weld on flange that was meant to be used. still, i say compressor surge, that's just my guess.

Compressor surge makes sense, the only thing that throws a wrench into is that people still have it when open vented. Thus back to square one.

my friend who works for mazdaspeed says he is for sure it is compressor surge. It happens on his sr20 as well. He says that if you let the BOV go to the softest if wont turkey as loud but you will stall easier. I personally like the softest setting it makes the best sound to the atm.
