Here are a few pics of my blown motor before and after the machine shop...

Wow, sweet! Looks like those grooves in the top of the pistons allow for the piston to rise higher and NOT hit the valves....is this normal?

Also, WHY are you rebuilding your engine?

How much did it cost?

It looks nice!

I am rebuilding my engine because of that magical go fast juice(A.K.A Nitrous) It got the best of my motor.

It is gonna cost me around $2500US to get it all taken care of. The motor is getting put back together in stock form. So yes the grooves in the pistons are normal.
I reused the three good pistons and had to buy one to replace the "holy" one.

Basically for the price of a good turbo set-up, I get my stock motor back without a warrenty. Thanks ZEX! (thumb) Oh well, school of hard knocks, eh? It was fun while it lasted.

i would of just did an engine swap and put a slightly bigger more powerful motor in it, then spending $2500 to rebuild the blown one.

I thought about doing an FE3 swap but I didn't want my car to be the guinne pig and I didn't want my car to be down(not working) that long, but with all of the delays with this rebuild I could of done the swap probably. Oh well again. Everything is always 20/20 in hind sight. :)

Ooooh shiny! :) So is your car now back together or is it still in the process of being repaired?

If anything can be said of the situation, you can be one of our spokesmen for the dangers of using N20.

If I'm not mistaken, the FS-series motors are non-interference designs. In other words, if your timing belt flies off and hits your best friend in the forehead, the pistons won't strike the valves and break 'em. So yes, the indentations in the piston are there for valve clearance.

now that your motor is completely apart, take the time to port and polish that sh!t!

Is the piston on the left the "bad" one? What exactrly happened to it?

I thought about that too, but I don't have the funds for that s*** :(
I might just have the funds to get it back from the mechanic.

Yes the one on the left is the "bad" one. As for what happened...I missed a shift and red lined the damn thing. That was when it blew. I wasn't spraying at the time this happened but the nitrous might have weakened the metal or some s*** but since I used the nitrous before I couldn't really fight the dealer about it.

Damn Don, That picture was an exact copy of the picture of my original motor after nitrous...Same piston and all! For those of you who have not seen it here it is:

Glad to see you getting your ride back!!:D
